We had home movies put on DVD-R discs and want to make backup copies. Nero S/W indicates that our DVD+R Discs dont have adequate capacity (to be written; 4.489 MB: avail on disc 4.482 MB). I apologize for not trying a search; I'm 71 and seriously ill. TIA for any suggestions and your patience with me. Yrnehbad

load your dvdr to DVD shrink! and it will make it fit when you hit the backup button!

it will also use nero burn engine to burn it!

    shrink is a free app

If you already have Nero you can just run it through Nero Recode, it will do the same thing as Shrink :)

Recode is part of the NVE package, and in ver. 6 and then included in 7. I only had ver. 7 on the computer briefly when it first came out and it had so many bugs. Uninstalled it and went back to 6 figuring I would wait awhile before going back to it. Sorry I bought it right off, should have waited.

Thank you everyone for your much appreciated replies. I think i saw nero recode on my puter (not sure what version) and will give it a try first. Am also anxious to try DVD shrink and that will be my next step even if Nero succeeds. I will post later (i'm very very slow, LOL) to let you know how i make out. Yrnehbad (bad is the 1st 3 letters of my last name just in case you really think my 71 years may have been bad, LOL They have been wonderful years).

I'm back to report that I used Nero Encode 2 ( is that really an old version) to copy 3 DVDs (home movies in VOB format) without any problems. I'm not sure i even had to use any compression (i didnt specify any and they all copied fine). What puzzles me is why did i keep getting messages (when using Nero to copy directly) that there was not enough space on my DVD+ discs. When i looked at the written side of both original and copied DVDs there still appeared to be about 20% free space. Is it possible a CLOSED DVD to play on a stand alone DVD player connected to a TV is telling the Nero copy S/W that the source disc is a full disc that can no longer be written to ? I will try DVD shrink later as i have about 5 more DVDs to copy. Thank you again for all your help. I have 2 more questions about Nero Encode and DVD shrink but i will start a new thread for fear of stealing my own. Yrnehbad
