I'll be installing win.xp-pro on my latest build. How can I streamline the installation to my particular needs without removing critical apps. This computer will be used for web surfing, dvd back-ups and some gaming, any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Slipstream your Service Packs and hotfixes. I did a writeup on that [url=http://www.devhardware.com/forums/operating-systems-18/slipstream...

Then, before you burn the CD, go here and create an unattended information file. You can specify exactly what you want installed, where you want it put, and answer or default all the stoopid questions the installation dialog asks.
