I have a Hitachi DZ-MV270A camcorder which I recently got. While making the decision to buy a DVD-RAM camcorder, I did not think of a basic feature I would loose if I wanted to maintain the highest quality. (The feature being storing Datestamp/time information). In the past (when using a Digital camcorder), I would simply do display for certain segements while transferring video through analog RCA connection for it to show the Date/Time.
According to Hitachi Technical Support, if you were to transfer your recorded clips onto the computer and then directly onto a DVD, you would loose the Date Stamp/Time Code information. This feature is very important to me. Hitachi says the only way to look this information up is to open it on the computer and then read the properties section to determine when the clip was taken. But I find that hard to believe since once an mpeg has been embedded into a VOB, I would think that information would also disappear.
I had hoped that with a DVD-RAM camcorder, I would be able to save that information permanently, and that once on the DVD, I would be able to hit the Display button to view the information, but according to Hitachi, this would not be possible. Another problem I noticed is that not many software makers support the DVD-RAM VRO format.
Considering everything is recorded on the Disk, there's got to be a software that lets you extract this information. Please advise if you're aware of anything such on the market. Given the fact that this is still relatively new, I really don't want to be spending money on multiple softwares that do not achieve my desired task. Currently I only know of Ulead's Movie Factory that can extract mpegs from VRO.
Please advise on other softwares available and if any can perform the extraction of Datestamp/Time.
