I have a Sony MDV camcorder connected to my PC using a USB2.0 cable and am using Nero Vision Express 3. It is my aim to capture some holiday footage, then edit it and then Burn onto DVD, but I am experiencing the following problem.....

When I view the footage from my camcorder on NeroVE it plays back absolutley fine, however, as soon as I press the record button on Nero to capture the footage, the footage immediately starts to stutter?? On stopping recording and viewing what I have just captured, it's all juddery and stuttering. Out of interest I have burnt the footage to DVD just to see if it plays ok, but it has recorded the same.

What is also strange is if I capture the footage from camcorder direct to a dvd it records it absoloutely fine? therefore I am assuming it is something to do with my hard drive?

I have tried using the software which came with the camcorder (Image Mixer)& windows movie maker and the exact same thing happens - I can view footage using my pc, but cannot capture....

If anyone has any suggestions I really would appreciate it!!!

As far as I understand, you need to use a firewire cable an port for this to work. The USB 2 port is only for transferring files from a memory card and is too slow for video capture.

Firewire is the best way to get digital video onto a PC. USB can not transfer the data quick enough.
If you have a Firewire port on your PC, you will just need a Firewire cable to connect the camcorder to it. If the PC does not have a port you will also need a Firewire card which fits into any spare PCI socket in the PC.
Have a look in the Digital Camcorder Forum for more info.

i wont dispute that a firewire is maybe better but there a a bunch of a to d converters, made by canapolus, plextor ads, all of wich use usb2 and they look the same as a dvd from blockbuster, so i think the gentleman has a different problem, altho i can not contribute to the solution

The camcorder is digital, there is no need for a capture card.
A Firewire cable will do the job.
