Hi folks. Im a very basic user and having trouble with my new dvd writer. its an External Emprex. I have tried copying various cds/dvds which have no copyright and have used various media. Everytime I am gettin a fail message, at diffent stages of the process, mainly when burning to dvd/cd. I am using OEM Suite, nero 6 .any help would be much appreciated. here is a log I got... First off please remove your Nero S/N which becins with 1A20 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Your version of Nero is way behind, latest version is 6.6.0.18 go here to update http://www.nero.com Your DMA is off, to enable go to this link http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 Try burning at 4x.

Lets see what is in this log: 512MB is considered the minimum for DVD ripping/burning. You did an amazing job of shutting down programs and freeing up memory. You could still use some more memory in your system. When i see this, it makes me wonder about your System ASPI: there should be some kind of driver listed there. Check your system aspi with nero info tool. You should see something like this: All green. If you get system ASPI corrupted or not installed, here is what AD says about ASPI layers and how to install them: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/aspisetup.cfm I couldn't see your firmware version for the toshiba drive, but here is the listing. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=289 And for that other drive, the listing is too generic to give me any idea as to who made it. I did look for your firmware version, and found this; http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1913 and if that is your drive, the firmware is behind by one version. Looks like A187 is the latest. The DMA is still off for this drive (whatever it is) I suspect a combination of outdated firmware, and corrupted or missing system aspi is what is causing your errors. Check them out, and you might try using different media. Riteks are OK, but even better is Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden found under Sony, Maxell, Fuji, made in japan.

That Vobid drive was installed by Pinnacle? Did that come with the drive?Perhaps it conflicts with Nero.
Thanks mate. that has given me a little more progress! I am now gettin to the burning stage. Nero is hanging up, (not responding). I can not get access to the log but this is was is on screen... DVDRW USB 16X SCSI command aborted DVDRW USB 16x\H2 T3 In recorder state it says failed. Please help me this is the most annoying thing ever! Thanks in advance to anyone who offers any advice.
You'r shutting down any unneeded progs. during burning and burning at 4x. To save wasting disks, do simulated burns.
eivets, Burning too close to the edge of the disc (even if it didn't make it) Set target size to Custom 4300 in Nero or Shrink on the burn setttings page. whatever that is, the DMA is OFF for it and should be ON. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 That log looks like it couldn't read data from the source disc. Never got to see what kind of media you were using, but use GOOD media like verbatim Sony, Fuji, Maxell, made in japan or even some of this: anything that brags about its dye like Advanced AZO, Accuecore, Datallife plus..
