I'm a new user of nero....I have (i guess) been lucky to have downloaded several dvds using nero express, but some videos will not show up on my tv. Although they have burned to the dvd (and same format of dvd's play on t.v. and severel don't) as which i can watch on my computer, while others i have no problem viewing on t.v.
Can anybody help me figure out what i'm doing wrong? Plus, the dvd's i burned to disk...can they be burned again to be able to use in my dvd player on t.v.?
    Thank you for your help........

    What you re burning?
    - DVD files? Protected?
    - AVI files? And you convert them with what?
    - MPEG files? What speed you use?

You said you have downloaded dvd`s with nere, do you mean burn with nero?
Or did you try to make backup dvd to hd and you try to see it from TV using TV-OUT?

I have burned dvd's with nero vision express, and actually as i have said that i am new to this and i guess just been lucky. As for me converting them, i guess nero does it for me, but seems to be more towards the avi that will not play on tv but will burn and play onto dvd's. I am learning through reading the forum to start burning at slower speeds. Is one suppose to format the dvd's or even avi's before burning with nero vision express? If the dvd files are protected would they even let me burn to dvd? If thats the case they are letting me burn as i can watch them on my computer, but once i burn the dvd and erase the file from the comp will i be able to fix the problem on the dvd to burn correctly for my tv on a new dvd?
I know this is long winded....but i have no clue....lol.....and only stupid question is a question not asked...right...lol...thanks for your help and all and any help that comes my way from the forum.

If you want to make backup dvd from original you need software DVD Shrink.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm

If you want to convert AVI to DVD -> DO not use Nero. Use FilmMachine, Avi2DVD or WinAVI
    http://members.home.nl/thefilmmachine/
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/avi_to_dvd_avi2dvd.cfm
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/multiple_formats_to_dvd_winavi.cfm
    or http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/divx_to_dvdr_with_dvd2svcd_normal.cfm

If you have MPEG file you can just burn it to DVD disk.
(or use DVDLab PRO or DVD MovieFactory)

Does your stand-alone dvd player suport + and - dvd`s?
    PAL or NTSC?

    I did not get this.
Are you asking that can you make another backup from same dvd? -Yes
Or can you burn again to the same disk? -No (or yes if that was DVD RW)

and the question is...say its a avi format that i cant watch on t.v., can i still use that same disc to burn onto another and change the format that can be seen on t.v., like say avi to mpg, or so forth? sorry for all the stupid questions...just trying to learn

You need to convert those AVIs to make them play on a TV. A computer has the programs to run it, but a TV goes DUH? when it sees an AVI. Nero Vision is supposed to convert AVIs to DVD format, but here is a free program that does the conversion of AVIs to DVD format:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/avi2dvd.cfm
It will take that AVI and convert it to mpeg4 i think, but anyways it makes all the files neeed to burn a DVD. Then you just use Nero, or your burning program of choice to make a DVD that should play on your stand alone.

I am at work, so i can't pull up the program to check what it converts have it on my home system. I think you are talking about a .wma file extension, and i am not sure if that program converts those. You might look at this program also:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/winavi_video_converter.cfm
I think the shareware version puts a watermark on the video, but the paid for version doesn't. I have another program at home for file conversion, but i cant remember the exact name of it.

Id be happy to look at your log. We will get you burning. And welcome to AD :) . Right away i see a major problem for you:
You have the mimimum amount of memory in your system for DVD ripping/burning, but you have almost [bold]none of it left.[/bold] 10MB is not enough. You need to close down all un-needed programs (virus scan, internet connection, e-mail, and anything else you are multi-tasking with) Nero alone doesn't take up 97% of your memory. That is a major issue that will all by itself kill off any attempt to burn a good DVD. Now lets look at the other stuff..

if you wanted to keep that disc open, this is ok, but to burn a disc particularly a non-RW disc, you should probably put all your songs/data on there and finalize the disc. If it is a movie, it needs to be finalized also. This makes it playable in other devices. And it looks like nero says finalize CD but then has a DVD+R in the drive. Maybe this is a glitch in nero log reporting?
Looks like you have learned quite a few things as: your nero is up2date, your burner firmware is up2date, your DMAs are ON, you only burned at 4x, you didn't burn too close to the edge of the disc, you don't have INCD installed, i could go on about what you did right, but here is what nero says stopped you:
It doesn't like your media. Which showed up as a DVD+R and booktype was changed to DVD-ROM, but it looks like you need to try some Verbatim, or Sony, Fuji, Maxell, last 3 made in japan. Good media makes all the difference in the world. Good media will cost .30 to .40 cents US per disc, but is worth every penny of it. You may get it for less on sale, or in bulk.
I've bought media from http://www.supermedia.com and they have Genuine Taiyo Yuden media (the best out there IMHO).
Im not sure what you were trying to burn (looked like an ISO file, but then started talking about a CD, kinda lost me there..)
Don't multitask while burning. There are free programs out there that can kill off programs for you. I found one at http://www.download.com under utilities, but i dont remember the name of the program. Just search there for application killer or terminator.. OR, you could increase your PC memory, and be less worried about programs eating up memory, but you still shouldn't be doing anything else with the PC while the burning is going on. The rest of your log looked good. Not much wrong other than those couple of things, but they are enough to kill off a DVD burn.
You can use Neros CD/DVD speed tool to do a media check on that DVD+R and it will show who made it. My guess would be the evil empire CMC, but who knows?

Ok let us try to address your memory issue. Your computer has enough memory to do DVDs, but other programs are using it, giving Nero very little free memory to work with. To free up memory you might try a free program or two:
    http://www.download.com/Process-Manager/3000-2094_4-10432666.html?tag=lst-0-6
    http://www.download.com/RAMBooster/3000-2086_4-10465453.html?tag=lst-0-2
    http://www.download.com/FreeRAM-XP-Pro/3000-2086_4-10485945.html?tag=lst-0-3
    http://www.download.com/Free-Ram-Optimizer-XP/3000-2086_4-10238480.html?tag=lst-0-2
    http://www.download.com/TaskInfo/3000-2094_4-10489070.html?tag=lst-0-8
    http://www.download.com/ProgramChecker-Personal-Edition/3000-2094_4-10416943.html?tag=lst-0-3

Another way to do this is to do a ctrl+alt+del and a box will pop up, under the processes tab it will list all running programs. You just highlight the one you want to kill and hit End Process button. This isn't the best way to go as many of the programs will be un-famailar to you, and the first program listed is free, and will do that for you. You dont need to be on the internet, have an anti-virus system running, checking e-mail, open web pages, or anything else not related to burning open when you burn. Something was using up 97% of your available memory. Maybe one of those programs i linked will show you what is taking up all your computer memory. I haven't used those programs, i was just looking for something free and maybe easy for you to use.

I understand you are having problems with your burning issues (as so am I?), but since i started this thread and have it to my email I am getting messages that are concerning your burning problems that has nothing to do with mine.
Could you please start your own thread? It's really not to hard. I also thank all that have helped me in my questions and am now using Winavi video converter. Really have'nt tried it yet but looks easy....I have played with it, but i'm trying to burn the files I have now on my computer in which I know will work with Nero so that I can free up memory space on my computer.
Thanks for all your help One Member & Maxburn.......Philil

    @ambaytek -

i see what your problem is without even trudging thru the entire logfile...

    - your blanks discs aren't being recognised, due to the burners' firmware being so old. this is similar to what you should see -
    - ie a 3line paragraph when the firmware's up to date. Your discs are newer than the burner's firmware knows what to do with as it's out of date.

i see you've got the latest firmware, 1.03, but that was dated April 2004!!, so even the latest version of firmware is way out of date to cope with newer media..

..you've got 2 choices, either buy older discs that the burner can actually use, or get a new burner. my recommendation is to get a new burner (and not a Ricoh!) as it's gonna get harder to find older discs as opposed to buying a new burner
