Can someone tell me what the difference is between Lite-On SOHD-16P9S DVD Rom and the Lite-On SOHD-16P9SV DVD Rom, I have the SOHD-16P9SV and I was wondering if the firmware is up to date, Thank you for you help.

It does NOT list the SOHD-16P9SV only the SOHD-16P9S, so I ask what is the difference, Thanks.

I have an NEC DV-5800A and I've been researching firmware updates for it. I'd just like some input.

I've downloaded the 1.92 firmware update (released in 2004). The readme said its not appropriate for OEM versions of the drive (which I have) but I don't see the difference between the OEM and retail versions if they're the same model. Should I take heed on this warning (or for that matter, should I bother updating at all; I've done no firmware updates since I bought the drive in 2000 or 2001)?

you should be fine updating your drive. you can always roll it back if you happen to have problems

My Pioneer DVR-108 burner as part of a Sony Vaio System will only accept firmware update from the Sony site, not from the Pioneer site. The version numbers are the same but the dowload files are named slightly diferent. Problem is that the last Sony upgrade was about a year ago to version 1.10, whereas many more updates on the Pioneer site all the way up to version 1.20. When I try to flash a file from Pioneer directly, I get the "drive not found error". Had no trouble at all from the Sony site, but it was a year ago and it is unlikely that any more updates will be provided for a computer off warranty.

I don't understand. I can't figure out how to flash the new Firmware to the drive. I tried to run it in Windows and it wouldn't work there so I made an MS-DOS startup disk and ran it in there (from the folder I loaded onto the floppy) and it still wouldn't work.

    Anyone help?
