-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have been burning DVD's with Nero 6 for the longest until two days ago. I messed up my default programs priority by adding Music Match and even though I uninstalled all of that I have been advised to, Nero still will burn DVD's anymore. CD's work fine but not DVD's. The drive stalls and clicks after it spins up and takes forever to lead-in and lead-out (almost two hours for a small set of VTS files), then the disc is unreadable (PC & DVD player). I did a clean uninstall of Nero and still the same problem. I cannot update my firmware because I am unfortunately using a discontinued piece of garbage Lite-on SOHW-832S "VTS" that neither e-machines nor Lite-on will support. I usually burn through AnyDVD/DVDFab/DVDShrink/Nero with over 200 DVD's burned and only a 5% coaster rate until yesterday. I have also tried burning with AnyDVD/CloneDVD, same problem . Please help, I am realy going nuts over this as I use my burner almost every day. Is it Nero, firmware, or burner burnt out? I am really willing to buy a new burner but I don't want to have it installed for nothing if Nero is the problem or if I can work around the firmware somehow. Thanx for all help.
Thats not a bad drive. Liteon supports it. They released a firmware for it like 3 weeks ago. The newest firmware for it is here http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/WebFW/SOHW-832S/DR8VS0M.zip
Unfortunately this is not the same firmware. The one you are sending me is for a VS03 not a VTS3. It will download and unzip but it will not install. Same as every other update on the Lite-on site. I did not make that statement about Lite-on products lightly as I don't like to disparage manufacturers, but Lite-on has really dropped the ball on this drive. There is no support for it anywhere, even with the PC manufacturer e-machine. They both point fingers at each other because no one wants to take responsibility for the firmware on this drive. If it is a good unit, then why can't I find one piece of update software anywhere on the web?
Ahhh. I didnt even notice the vts part. I would think it is still a 832s though just rebadged. Before I decided to replace it completly I would look into crosflashing it.
First try this one http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares/dvdrw/832S.VS0M.patched-cf.rar Unrar it then run it like you did when you try the vs03. If it flashes your set if not then you will need to go to the codeguys site to learn more about how to crossflash your own.
