I have a Sony DRU-810a burner and I have been using DVD Decrypter and ImgBurn to backup movies on Verbatim DVD+R DL discs. I have been ripping the DVDs in ISO mode. How do I set the booktype for my particular burner in ImgBurn? I can't tell if it's being set to DVD-ROM automatically or not using booktype at all. Thanks.
When in write mode, click the booktype icon at the bottom right corner of the screen (just to the right of the write speed selector). Edited for more detail... Your Sony DRU-810A is based on a BenQ 1640 burner. Try the booktype settings for the BenQ 1640 on the icon I noted above. I'm not sure if you will need BenQ firmware or not.
Thanks for the help, it looks like the setting for BenQ will work for my burner. Another small question I have: is there an easy way to tell if the DVDs I've already backed up have been booktyped correctly? Also a question about media. I have quite a few of these discs and I was wondering if it is a good idea to burn them at 2x even though it says on the box it supports 6x. Why would the box say 6x and DVD Identifier say 2.4x? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R-DL:MKM-001-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R DL] - [Not Available] Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Kagaku Media] Manufacturer ID : [MKM] Media Type ID : [001] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [4,173,824 Sectors = 8.55 GB (7.96 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [2.4x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier V4.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is probably one of the most helpful technical forums I've ever seen.
Use the program you mentioned; ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier V4.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- to identify one of your DVD+R disks after the backup is completed. regards
As Kringles indicated DVD Identifier should do the trick. I prefer Nero's Info Tool which was bundled with Nero 7 Ultra Edition. Also remember that you can only booktype DVD+ and DVD+ DL media. I never buy DVD- media because it can't be booktyped. It may have a disclaimer on the box that says "Up to 6X Speed With Compatible Drives." Atleast that's what the last 10 pack of Verbatims I bought says. I can burn Verbatim DL media at high speeds with my 1640, but it is my understanding Sony's firmware is slightly modified. I can't speak to whether or not it will work with your burner.
