I am using DVD FABEXPRESS, ANYDVD, with a AOPEN 1608ARR Burner. Fuji DVD+R. Movies are hanging and freezing with a lot of pixel flash. What can I do to fix this problem. I have upgraded the firmware drivers etc.
The 2 most common causes of problems that you are experiencing are poor quality media or burning too fast. ID your disc's with this free proggy http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ and let us know the make and media code. What speed are you burning at?

try better media Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim are top choices in here. burn a 4x also DONT run anyother programs while burning
Do Not Use Paper Stick On Labels, and also reduce the file size to 4300 or below before burning to prevent "Burning Too Close To The Edge". As well as what was mentioned in the above posts. JBurden
I think I was burning at the fastest speed 52X, that is what was checked when I checked the properties. I just changed it to 16X. I will try that and see what happens. THANKS ALL
@heraldo2 52x is for cd's - haven't seen a burner yet to go this fast for dvd's!! 16x is the max for burners right now. Don't burn at max even w/ quality media. Lower it to 4x as the others suggested.
Ritek may not be on the A list, but it's still considered a good media. So don't be surprised if all your problems don't disappear with just a media change. With high quality media and good equipment you can go faster, but you only save a few minutes on a burn. Take the advice and go with 4X for burning DVD movies till you at least have everything working well. My burner will allow 12X burns on good 8X media, but I still stay about 6X with video. Burn speed is normally limited by the media used unless there is a slow drive in use. As mentioned, 16X is tops for the DVD media and there's not much of it floating around yet. Most of what is in the stores now is 8X. After all that, if you're still having problems, go to http://www.slysoft.com and download the CloneDVD2 trial and give it a spin. You already have the AnyDVD. That will tell you if it's a software problem or not. Also, if you have any batch writing software, it interferes with video burners, it's a good idea to not have it to prevent interference.
brobear Ritek is Fuji, I changed the write speed to 4x still have pixel flash and 2-3 second freezing. Stoped using Clone DVD because the pixel problems were even worse.
I guess it's about time to ask you some more questions. What movie are you trying to back up and how large is it in Gigabytes? Does the hanging and freezing, and pixelation occurr on both your PC and standalone player(s)? Have you tried a recorded disc from another source on your players? The Fuji Riteks may not be on everyone's A list, but it is supposed to be good media, unless you got some from a bad batch. Just in case, use a cleaner disc and clean the optical head on your drive; especially if you have much dust and the drive is very old. Having smokers around is even worse on PCs. You said the problem was worse with CloneDVD2, so software seems to have some effect. DVD Shrink is free and relatively easy to use. An easy guide can be found at http://www.dvdshrink.info . Try it and check the Quality Settings in the burn selections and deep analysis to help with compression problems. Quality settings are new in the 3.2 version of Shrink. Just in case we forgot to mention it; the symptoms you describe are classic compression errors, though they can come from other problems.
I used to burn 4x all the time. However I recieved a 25 pack of Memorex 15x DVD-R's for Christmas & so far I've made DVD's (from mpg video files) that play fine without freezing & pixillation problems. The burns were done at 8x. I prefer TY media though the made in Japan & Tiawan Sony's are good too.
Interesting, but I fear we're straying from the original goal, to get Heraldo2's problem solved. The goal is to get into settings assured to work with a bulletproof setup that works (lower speed settings, decent media, and a known software that works good with compression problems). The venture into higher speeds and different media can come later. BTW, the MIJ Sony is TY, the MIT is good too, as bratcher pointed out.
bratcher Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim is the best media on the market .memerox on the other hand is the worst media on the market i would steer clear from this brand "CMC Mag" .the sony DVD+R 8X (MIJ) will code out as Taiyo Yuden your better off with the plus format with this brand.
You say not to use any programs while your DVD burns. Why is this? Isn't this what the buffer is for and if it caused a problem wouldn't it merely crash the burn process instead of completing? The actual burning process doesn't do any compressing or re-authoring, but just burns the files to disc right? I have a problem with a DVD+R DL copy I made that freezes on one spot, but as far as I can tell it's a good copy and my old DVD player is the issue. I just want to know how you can tell if you are getting "compression errors" or if that has anything to do with a random freeze.
Brobear the pixel and freezing problems have been occuring with every movie I have tried to burn, ie Batman, Brothers Grimm, transporter2 etc. My burner is only 2yrs old, but I have not used it for a constant period of over six months. Problems did not start to occur until I switched to Clone DVD2, before I was using Clone DVD. After I changed to Clone DVD2 and Decrpyter, DVDFab Express I have been having problems. Every test tells me that the hardware is working correctly?? What else could there be??
D1K1E, There shouldn't be any compression if copying a dvd to a DL dvd. Could be a problem with the layor break. What software and media are you using? I recommend dvd decrypter read iso then dvd decrypter or imgburn to write the iso to your disc. Straight 1:1 copy's.
