I'm running a 1.7ghz machine with 512gb of ram. NV (latest Nero 6) takes 4 to 6 hours to make a DVD from an mpg or avi file. Planning to build a 3.4ghz machine with 2 gb's of ram. Would that cut the encoding speed in half? The files are classic movies & TV shows downloaded from a few usenet newsgroups...
I have been using Nero 7 with vision express 3 it takes me about 1.5 hours to encode and burn a dvd from avi/xvid/mpeg file. I am running p4 northwood 2.8ghz on 1gb of ram. I disable all programs not needed ie: quicktime/real/anti-spyware and disable my screensaver I also typically do a reboot before and after encoding to refresh my pc. I have had great luck doing this increasing your processor speed would help you to burn faster but disabling those processes you will not need during burning can help increase speed. good luck
