Hi all, I have recently upgraded to Nero 6 (from 5.5 which was bundled with my computer when I bought it). This seems to be a bundled product too, and says it will only recognise the DVD recorder that it was sold with. It will record CDs without any problems but I need it for converting AVI / DIVx files into DVD files, but this will not work. I have read a few of the threads on here and have made sure my firmware is updated. I am running a Pioneer DVR-106D. I have tried following alkohol’s “How to convert AVI files….” But it just won’t recognise my burner. Can anyone shed any light onto how this might be possible (without me having to buy any more versions of Nero) or should I just give up and burn them to CD. Any help would be much appreciated.
i think we'll try it from the file end first. Can you download avicodec and run your avi file through it ,then post the results file: video: audio: so that we can see then plot the next step
I have tried to download avicodec but the source I got it from had a virus attached and my antivirus wouldn't allow me to open it. Have you any links for where I may to able to get this from. Thanks for your help
Managed to get avicodec, information is as follows: File : 642 MB (642 MB), duration: 1:58:09, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 32 % Video : 595 MB, 704 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 320*240 (4:3), MP42 = MS MPEG4 V2, Supported Audio : 47 MB, 56 Kbps, 24000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported
this file is pretty bad quality wise but lets see about getting it converted download vso divx to dvd using the link below. This is the free version http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd-r_tools/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm load your file into it and press convert. This program will convert your divx/avi file into an mpeg2 compatible or dvd movie file which nero should reconize.Whats the exact version of nero that you are running?
Have downloaded vso divx and will run it tomorrow (as the file that I want to convert will take 3-4hours to convert) This seems very much like the converter that Roxio uses (although Nero and Roxio won't work together) I will let you know how it turns out. I am using Nero 6.6.0.16 which I bought brand new from eBay, but it seems its the version that comes with a particular DVD burner (which isn't mine)
Hi, first of all THANK YOU very much for all your help on this (i've been asking around for a while now and no one has been able to help) My computer stats are..........well, it's not the best in the world: Celron 2.00GHz, 512mb Ram, 40g Hard drive (well, 8g - that's why I need to convert these files) It depends on the size of the file (I know this is obvious but I said it anyway) but it averages around 3hours per Movie (the file i've just tried wasn't a movie, but a live festival from 1989 - which would explain why the quality is so bad) I have converted the file, it has given me a VIDEO_TS folder, i'm presuming that I add the folder and not the individual files?! Also, this is a three part festival, which I was hoping to get on the same disc. If I convert the other two parts, won't these have the same file names as the one i've just converted?! Or do I rename them?! Anyway, thanks again for your help. Will let you know how I get on. (ps. I have updated Nero, thanks Gwendolin)
you dont have enough space, you need about 6 to 16 gig free on one partition to be able to burn properly or you may recieve an error saying that there is lack of space Consider getting a bigger hard drive AS ONE of the major priorities in your next upgrade but for now how about freeing more room up. If you dont have shrink, get it and under the reauthor mode you will be able to get those vobs to disc andd then burn with nero
I ran VSO DIVx on one of my files, converted it and burned it to DVD on Nero......thank you VERY much, this has definatly answered my question. I have managed to clear 15gb worth of space so far, but now that this combination works, it should only be a matter of days. I will upgrade to a larger Harddrive when I can afford it, but until then. I haven't downloaded shrink, as I was looking around on here and most people recomend Nero Recode2 over shrink, and being as Nero v6 has recode2 and thought I might give that a try, thanks anyway.
i have recode and yes it is a superb program but sometimes it wont do all the things you want so having a free application as well might be the difference between getting the excess that recode wont do done
