I'm looking for parts to biuld a new PC and I haven't been keeping up with the new stuff. Whats the difference between geforce GT, XT, and just a Geforce. Also what is PCI-Express. And SLI allows you to use 2 3D cards at the same time right? and do they have to be the exact same one to use SLI? Also for building a gaming PC kinda on the cheap should I go with AMD? Thanks for any help
How much better is a geforce 6600 256MB than a geforce 6200 256MB? Can the 6200 run pretty well with most games out now? mostly mmorpgs? Also what kind of ports are VIVO and DVI?
Wow, lots of questions... 1)GT is generally higher memory and core clocks than "plain vanilla" Geforce. XT is usually used by ATI to designate cards at a higher level than "Pro" 2)PCI-Express is a new connection pathway for videocards and other peripherals. If you are building a new system, get a motherboard with PCI-Express, not AGP. All the new videocards are being developed for PCI-E,not AGP. 3)The 6600 is MUCH better than the 6200. SLI gives you 2 PCI-E video slots, but they must be filled with identical Nvidia cards that are designed for SLI (If you're an ATI fanboy, you'll have to go single card or get a Crossfire mobo). 4)If you are building a gaming computer, DEFINATELY go AMD! It's not a matter of building cheap, the socket 939 systems are simply better for gaming than Intel. Intel is great for encoding, however. 5)VIVO = Video In, Video Out, useful for home theater PC's 6)DVI= Digital Video Interface, connection used for some of the newer high-end monitors and TV's
Is the Geforce 6800 XT 256MB PCI-express a good card, I'm trying to figure out the different types of 6800 cards, theres a normal 6800, GS, XT, and GT. Is the XT the crappiest?
