I'm new to DVD ripping and would like to be sure the hardware I'm about to buy will do the trick on a G4 dual 450.

I'm considering the latest EZQuest DVD 4x burner. The price is good at $339 with all the same specs as other DVD burners like LaCie. Plus it comes with software I don't already have.

The cheapest media I've found is from ClubMac, GVP 100 pack 1x DVD-R for $130. If anyone has had any problems with this media or the EZQuest burner, I would appreciate your feedback.

I also have a question which I may already know the answer. I've been a Mac user since 1985. I remember back then a program that copied disks at the bit level for defeating copy protection schemes. At that level, protection schemes can't run thus in effect you end up with an exact copy of the original disk,protection scheme and all. My question is why wouldn't that work with DVDs or is that method much too slow given the amount of data on a DVD?
