Hi, I am just getting into this dvd burning thing and am somewhat discouraged. I really need to find some direction in buying some better media. I have had so/so luck with some memorex 16x-DVD+R media, about 6 bad out of 25 and absolute terrible results with some maxell 8x-DVD+R with 9 out of 9 failures. I have recently just minutes ago ordered some taiyo yuden 8X-DVD+R disks(yuden000t02) and some verbatim 16x-DVD+R disks (mcc004). I hve read mixed reviews on all types but these 2 seemed the best so I decided to give them a try. Does any one have any suggestions for media that will work good in my Hp 740i burner using nero 7 ultra recode 2 and also nero express 2???? any comments would be most appreciated.

It is not always media that is the problem ! Your firmware , your setup for the burner, the software you use, the protocol you use , your PC capabilities , are all directly involved in getting successful results !

    Hi there,

I think you have answered yourself.

Memorex (MemoSux) = don't get them close to your drive :)

    Taiyo Yuden (TYG0x - Yuden000)
    Verbatim (MCC)
    Maxell [bold]made in Japan[/bold] (MXL RG0x)

are the best media out there.

I could not find a firmware for the HP-740i burner, so I assume it's a pretty new model, so therefore should have the latest firmware on it.

Nero v7.0.14b is the latest if I recall.

    Good Luck !

Thanks for the comments. Yes the burner was bought in december and runs on a new dell dimension 3100. The nero version is the b version also. I have read alot of bad things about memorex but they did not work that bad. But I fully expected the maxell ones to work. Although I am now aware to be sure to get the made in japan ones and to check the codes carefully on the disks. With dome disks The burner would start out fine and after a while would just hang and spit out the disk one time it actually locked the computer up. I will try to stick to the brands noted and will see how they work out whan they arrive!! any other comments or tips greatly appreciated....thnx
