Right, it's an MPEG4 format. If you spell it backwards, you'll see what it is. LOL WinAVI Video Converter may be the easiest if it works? Which it's supposed to. File in, DVD out.

Xvid is along the lines of DivX as it is free source from the older open source DivX development. DivX is closed source from DivXNetworks. DivXtoDVD works with the DivX and Xvid. Here's the details on the app:
DivxToDVD supports most popular format such Divx, Xvid, MOV, VOB, Mpeg, Mpeg4, AVI, WMV, DV and stream formats. It converts your files into a compliant DVD Video set of files and burns it on a DVD media. So, if it does what it's supposed to, it would be a good choice for the task.

@brobear..... it hasn't failed me yet! I love that program! VSO makes great programs. I use CopytoDVD almost exclusively after I use DVDRebuilder Pro! I recommend all VSO programs.

Have you considered Nero Vision Express?
For all kinds of video convertions that's my program of choice... It's very easy to work with although it does take a fair bit of time to do the whole thing, you put the file on one side and the burnt DVD comes out on the other.
    Just a thought.

I've used CopyToDVD, Blindwrite, and DivXToDVD. When CopytoDVD refused some burns with possible errors and Nero did them, I started using Nero more. They're good apps though and I have nothing against them. For working with AVI codecs, it's hard to beat the DivXtoDVD.

The new version in Nero 7 is Nero Vision 4. I'll have to give the call to VSO over Nero on this one.

    Hi there,

I've been using CopyToDVD since I started using VSO DivxToDVD v0.4 or v0.5, anyway way back then :)

Other than using a few elto cheapo media, I had never ever had issues with CopyToDVD, so I am surprised to see this comment.

    My 2 cents...

And here's your change. ;) When doing encodes of the newer DVDs with structural encryption, it can get into the encoding process. When that happens there will be slight structural errors. They were intended to help prevent copying. What they can do is also prevent burning because the burn software analyzes the file for correct structure. In those cases CopytoDVD and Blindwrite inform the user of the possible error and refuses to burn. Nero will warn of possible errors and if the errors aren't too severe, it asks the user if he wants to proceed. It's only happened a few times, but in each instance I burned. The backups played flawlessly.

I wasn't putting down VSO and in fact I said it was good software. It's just that Nero does things with the burns that VSO won't. Since there's no need to keep 2 suites loaded that do the same things, I opted for the Nero. I'm no newb, so when I say something about an app, especially one I'm familiar with, you can bank on what I've said. I guess you just haven't pushed the software as far as I have. If you want corroboration, I can supply that as well.

    @Brobear

I hear you mate, i still have Nero 6. It has never let me down, so i don't think Nero 7 is worth the change. But that's only my very personal opinion.

I don't really know VSO so i have no opinion on it... I'll take your word on it mate. Might have a nose around that app tough... lol

@IHoe, I'm with you on this one. I've only used CopyToDVD on a couple of occasions and things went smoothly. If I have to recommend a converter then it's DivxToDVD and ALWAYS burn with CopyToDVD by just checking the box.

I'm not saying that Brobear didn't have a problem with what he was using on a certain DVD but I never ever had a problem and that's just my 2 cents....... Brobear can make change! But I respect his experience! And I admire his knowledge.

Thank you IHoe for the vote of confidence. As I said before, I'm not putting down VSO, it's an excellent product. I can also say that I've never had a bad burn due to the CopytoDVD software. What I said was that it will limit what is to be burned and Nero will question but allow a questionable burn. With the low cost of a DVD5 and the knowledge of how the studios have been tampering with video structure, I'm willing to take a gamble. As I said, so far the backups off those questioned burns have played with good results.

Then you can look at all the things done by a suite and there again Nero holds an edge by sheer numbers. If a person likes VSO, there is no reason to change. If a person needs the extended functionality of Nero, then that's their choice. It boils down to preference here, nothing more. But, I have good reason for my decisions. DivXtoDVD is a separate app from the burner suites and I have that one currently loaded on my system. So, I believe in using what does the best for me. Everyone else should do the same, whether it be VSO, Ahead, or whatever.

As a point of interest, a 100% success record over 600 backups is an admirable record with any one app. However, it matters little if the source is old DVD, new DVD, or whatever; the burner software is looking at a digital input from your PC. You're getting the same quality signals repeatedly. What varies is the video and audio quality that one gets from the recorded data. That's considering all other things to be up to par; good recordable media, equipment and the like. The way the software and hardware handle those varying quality sources can have an effect though, but usually the burner software is the least error prone as long as it is a decent app. People are using ImgBurn, DVD Decrypter and other free burners as well as many of the retail offerings to get good burns. I even have a Plextool burner app specific to the Plextor burners. I can get a good burn from them all and with reliable results. Gets down to the bells and whistles along with personal preference. I only noted in a somewhat rare instance that Nero allowed a burn refused by a VSO app. I like the extended ability, even if a small one. Both VSO and Ahead have their pros and cons. It's just up to the user to decide. I don't question anyone's use of an app (I'll qualify that with I'll question if/when a person voices a point of view or approach that is technically lacking and will be problematic if others follow the example. There I try to work from technical aspects and not a personal preference. I know there are more than just the ways I like to accomplish tasks). When I mention a choice of my own, I usually have justification for that choice. As I noted, there are people using a wide array of burner apps, not just VSO and Ahead, and it is their choice.

You never have to defend yourself in what you use for a burning aplication, Brobear! I also have Nero..... but I only use it for copy to copy......not that I couldn't use it for anything else. I'm comfortable with VSO....it works for me and I never had a problem with it and it's easy to use! Others might go through what you have and go with other programs to do the same job. Programs vary for everyone just as computers varies to each individual. Just so long what works for you is going strong.... use it and all is right with the world!
