Well I just bought this burner some days ago and it hasn't give me anything but headaches. I can burn CDs but when I insert a blank dvd it doesn't recognize it, and it won't burn. I contacted the vendor and he said that I need to have atleast 6 GB of free space for the dvd to burn?!? Does this really how to do with the 2 probs. mentioned above. The drive came with DL11 firmware on it, I even tryed the new DL12 firmware but no luck. I even came across some forum where ppl said it might be the power supply. I have a 350 W pwr sply and even when I unplugg all of the unnecessary stuff It still won't recognize or burn dvd's. So where is the problem? The media, power supply or free space, or maybe something else?Thx

Nope, no help there. Goddamnit, I went back to my vendor he tryed it, it orks for him, didn't give me replacement for it, I don't know what to do next, I'll just brake it or throw it out the window.

everything mentioned was checked, twice. No luck, interesting it can read and burn cds but not the dvds....firmware flashing unsucessful, reinstalled windows 30 mins ago...
how can it read a blank disc? If there is nothing on the disc how can it read it. Now if you mean Nero cddvd speed then you should say so. my power supply is only 300W and mine works fine. Have you set it as master or slave? What software are you using to burn? What brand dvd discs are you using?
I'm using nero 7 for burning, type of media tested for burning: Traxdata, TDK, Verbatim all DVD+R and DVD-R. Funny I have a 350 W power supply, and it doesn't work. My pc specs: 1.2 GHz processor 256 RAM 40 GB HDD Motherboard is old (5 years, so is the via chipset on it, and I have the latest bios). Almost forgot. The dvd-rw is set as master and my dvd-rom as slave. And yes I tryed unplugging everything except dvd-rw, and hdd, but no luck. When I insert blank cd it says blank cd inserted, and opens the action menu. When I insert blank dvd, it says nothing, and its dvd-ram icon in my computer (under type) becomes CD drive.
In the manual it says System enviroment This unit can be operated in the system enviroment explained here. System 2.4 GHZ or more 512MB Ram 128MB VGA Card memory 20GB or more free space The manual does not say minimum specs needed to run properly so maybe your pc might be to old to run properly? If you have 2 dvd drives set up on your computer it puts extra strain on your CPU. Have you tried putting the LG as master and being the only drive in your pc? If not give it a go. Go to device manager to see if it is running ok.
Yes I tryed setting it as master, but it didn't work.I also tryed it on another computer with the following specs: 2.0 GHz processor 512 MB RAM 20 GB free space this 2nd comp is rather new, and it didn't work. But then I tryed it on an even faster comp, 2.4 GHz 1.5 GB RAM 40 GB free space power supply 400w and it worked.
If it works fine on the higher spec pc then obviously your pc does not meet the required specs to run the drive properly. Sorry to be of no help. By the way what OS are you running? I have read on the cdfreaks forum about people changing there PSU to a higher wattage and then it worked, So it is down to you if you want to spend more money on a new PSU. But it does not mean that it will work for you because it worked for a selected few. Remember every pc is different.
Thx, pazzini, I aswell don't think it's the power supply that needs an update. I think it's the ram or mb. I give the advantage to ram because I think that it needs a little more memory to process the order given to it to read and burn the dvds, so 256 mb is way to low.I'll buy additional 512 mb ram to see if that will do the trick.
