U99 error

    Sorry if this is a duplicate post.
    My brother sent me the DMR-E85HP. The U99 error won't go away so I can't upgrade the firmware. Is there anything to be done or is it garbage? I've tried many of the suggestions on the forum. It occasionally says test * L1. I don't have it hooked up to the cable or tv so I can access the innards. Help.

    change the hard drive,reformat,good to go
