    The cheapest player that you can find!

    Yep, those $25-$35 players will usually play anything you throw at them. Plus/dash/rw/even dual layer. The fancier/surround sound systems usually have a harder time reading backups.

    I got the Magnavox-el cheapo player at wal-mart six months ago.It cost $37 then,now about $32 and it is very small. It does not have progressive scan though. I know of about 5 or 6 friends and family members with that same player and it plays everything.

    I only buy stand alone players from places that can easily take them back in case they don't play my backups. I haven't had to take any back,but nice knowing wal-mart will accept returns and no questions asked.

    I would go for at least a $60 to $80 dollar player. Most all cheap players will play dvd-r's but lots of them will skip in places that they
    woudnt with a better player. I like sony and phillips. Phillips even has one that will play divx.

    dude, wat r u saying saugmon??

    there is a reason why those cost $30, and there is a reason why others cost $100- not just due to brand.

    Go with $80-$90 one, don't waste ur omney on a cheapass $30 one.

    It's true! The el cheapo player will play anything you throw at it.You take the $3000 denon players they only play original-pressed in dvds.

    If you're not into xvid,I'll put my $35 magnavox MWD 200-F against a $100 player anyday of the week. I do have backups from 6 different pc burners/1 tv recorder/+r/+rw/+r DL/booktyped dvd rom/and -r/inkjet printable/and lightscribe. That el cheapo will play everything!

    My brother/cousin/and 3 friends at work bought the same model and no problems playing backups. It'll even play cmags/moser bauer/and AML media perfect! It'll even play my 16x speed backups to perfection. No pixellation/no freezing/or skipping.

    @BurningAs
    The cheaper the better mate. Saugmon is right! I have a £400 Sony, the quality is superb, but when you put a copy into it, it will spit it back out! Vcd's are ok, everything else is not!

    Then i have a £32 Phillips from Tescos. Throw DVDs, Svcd, MP3's, Data MP3's, you name it... So, my advice is:

    [bold]EL CHEAPPO DVD STANDALONE RULES![/bold]

    lol lol lol lol
