For some reason the helpctr.exe file keeps deleting. I'm guessing there is some sort of virus but none of my scanners come up with anything. Does anyone know where I can download that file and what folder I should put it in?
First of all look in [bold]WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries[/bold] and check if the file is there ! If it is, your problem is a Registry messed up ! To fix it here's what you do :- START-RUN- Type REgedit-- OK Goto [bold]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Helpctr.exe[/bold] ---In the right pane, verify that the key is set to the following value: [bold]C:\Windows\PCHealth\Helpctr\Binaries\Helpctr.exe[/bold] If this registry entry does not exist, create a new entry. To do this, follow these steps: a. Locate the following registry key: [bold]HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths[/bold] b. Right-click App Paths, point to New, and then click Key. c. Type [bold]Helpctr.exe[/bold]. d. In the left pane, click Helpctr.exe. e. In the right pane, right-click (Default), and then click Modify. f. In the Value data box, type [bold]C:\Windows\PCHealth\Helpctr\Binaries\Helpctr.exe[/bold] , and then click OK. ============================================================= If it's not in the Binaries folder -- you will find a copy in [bold]\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386[/bold] -- assuming you are on Windows Xp. -- just copy and paste to your WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries folder first then check the Registry.
I did what you said but now when I click on the "Help and Support" button it says: "Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem start the service, 'Help and Support'."
Ok now all you have to do is activate the service ! Go Start - Run - Type [bold]services.msc[/bold] Click [bold]OK[/bold] A window will pop up now go down the list to [bold]Help and Support[/bold] -- click it and look at the menu that will spring up on Left. Click [bold]restart Service[/bold]. have a great day !
