my modem not working

I have a dell d600 latitude and I'm trying to connect to the internet and my system cant find a modem, this computer is new to me, what should I do.

these type of computers usually have an AMR modem which has to be set to active in the bios to function.
Take a look in the bios for the setting that says something like "modem device" (possibly in advanced or chipset settings) and make sure it is set to enabled. if its already set to enabled then you may need to install the modem drivers
