I like the older stuff. It seems to me that there is not much originality in most games that come out these days - EA makes another Madden or other sports game with minimal changes from the previous years, another FPS comes out with flashier graphics, or the latest MMORPGs still have you killing wave after wave of orcs or skeletons to achieve the next level. My favorites PC games would be: Ultima Underworld - released about the time of Doom, the first true 3D game in my opinion. You had the ability to look up and down which wasn't available until Quake with iD's games. Also the first game I remember to have an automap. I was hooked on this for a long time, and they are still releasing new features in patches to this day on Battlenet System Shock - a hybrid rpg/fps this game really immersed you in the environments. This game set the standards for many RPGs. I played this on the Atari ST rather than the PC. It was also the first game to have MIDI music, which would blow you away if output to an external synth on the Atari's built in MIDI ports. None of you have mentioned F.E.A.R. .....I think this is one of the best FPS ever......also has a very good multiplayer (online) Mike
F.E.A.R is not that great. All F.E.A.R is, is a bunch of high end graphics nothing we haven't experienced before.
I beg to differ....In my opinion, and u are entitled to your own opinion, I believe that FEAR has redefined FPS. OK....maybe not FPS overall, but deff. the supernatural suspense category of FPS. I have never played a game like FEAR before in my life. And when I play that game alone at night, I .... I dont know......it is scary as hell. Mike
It is weird. I dont see any RPG game listed. Maybe they are all suck. LOL. I just wonder any good RPG on PC.
4 out of the 5 games I listed were RPGs, most were older but all were great games that set the standards for their particular genre of RPG. More recent good RPGs would be Morrowind Neverwinter Nights Arx Fatalis Gothic II Temple of Elemental Evil The original poster that started the thread also had 2 RPGs listed, KOTOR 1 & 2
