PC DVD-ROM replacement in xbox

I'd read about this, so I tried it... It seems that the PC drive reads everything fine, but on some games, it stops working when it comes to actually playing the games, it reads menus fine, but the game itself won't load up, no idea on how to fix this... I tried genuine ritek dvd-r's and those don't work, neither do plain old bulk dvd-r's. Don't know if it's just the media, or if there's another program that needs to be installed... SSX tricky is what doesn't work, maybe that has extra security, no idea, any help would be appreciated =)
