When I attempt to copy a home made DVD which is on dvd-rw media I get the message " Detected Burnable Media in DVD burner. Would you like to automatically Burn". I am not sure what this means so I am clicking on NO which just hangs up Platinum. Can you advise what this message means and can I copy the dvd to a different a +r or -r or -rw ?
what program are you using and the message is just letting you know that you have a recordable ready for burning. I'm not sure if you loaded your home made DVD and whether it's ready for burning, meaning if you get the message to Automatically Burn then it's ready for copying! But not knowing what program you are using when you load your RW I can't tell you what that means! and what do you mean by Platinum?
If you're talking about XCopy Platinum or one of the other transcoder apps, you're using the wrong software. Use the copy function in most any recording suite for the purpose. The Copy DVD function of Nero Express is a good option, if you have it. As I mentioned, most suites have a similar app. As for the program recognizing ther RW, if you were to enter yes, more than likely it would format the media for you and use it for recording. To know exactly what the situation is, we need the answer to IHoe's question, what software are you using? I have different apps in Gold and Platinum, but that doesn't tell you what they are or what they're for.
I am using DVD X COPY Platinum edition to try and perform the copy. The DVD in the drive when I attempt to copy is the one I want to copy from and NOT format. Thanks
I guess I can take the bow now. XCopy is looking at your RW as the disc to record to. XCopy isn't intended as a tool for making copies of copies. As I said, all you need is a copy tool such as Nero Express or VSO's CopyToDVD. Sonic-Roxio and other companies have similar apps. You may even be able to burn it with Windows. I've always had a burning suite, so I never needed to try that option. If you open a disc (not Play) in a drive other than the burner, you can right click and select Send To with the selection of the burner drive (for the Video_TS folder). With a single drive you can copy to the HD and then record the Video_TS folder to the burner. It's easier to just do a disc copy with the burner software though.
Thanks BroBear... I did like you suggested and copied the files from the dvd to HD.. and then used windows moviemaker to create a new disk.. Worked very well. I will look into Nero copy.. Assume I can find it at best buy or some other similar store. Again my thanks..
You can download a full function trial from Nero.com to do a "road test" of the app. Unlimited trials (at least the last time I noticed), they have to be reloaded periodically. Nero sells online, but shop around, you may be able to find it cheaper. Ask in the Nero section here at AD where the best place to buy is and someone may come up with a better price. BTW, you're welcome.
