So most games are unable to play online if you patch DNAS without original disk? I read alot of them can be patched and able to play online.

Why load it onto your HDD when you have a burner and play on ur backup DVD?
-It reduces DVD read time, increase PS2 life span.
-Speed, games like DDR, guitar freaks and drummania would have a lot better load time if it's loaded onto a HDD. (ya... I'm one of those freaks... )
-Smoother game play since HDD almost never skip unless you strike it really hard.....

Well... I have heard all your points, but you seem to have forgotten something, let's talk about the lazer lens of the ps2.
Lol... wow... there's no way in hell you will be able to keep your ps2 in good condition for your grand kids, the lazer lens wears out really quick. It is actually quite surprizing how fast they die. This is why you need the hard drive the most. And if there are patches for online play, then I am sure you can just patch the .iso file, send it from your PC to your ps2's hard drive, and play it online from the hard drive, would make no difference my friend.

Well I never said ps2 I meant back ups but I'm sure if you keep your ps2 stored away for a decade or 2 in a box and open it up 1day it will still work. Another reason can be hard drive failure and you have back ups to reinstall you never know. I myself prefer hard drive much more convinient.

Actually, if you kept it in a box that long, there would probably be so much dust on the laser lens it would not work lol. But on to the point, the chances of a hard drive failure are quite low my friend, and the life spand of a hard drive is quite long, much longer than any laser lens. Hard drives will always be better, more faster, more space, more choice, less work, it's a dream come true...
I have a hard drive in my xbox, 160gb.
(Just to let everyone know, I have now the knowledge to mod an xbox without even opening it, it's called softmodding, all you do is load a hacked save in a game, and it will install special software allowing you to play burnt games and install a larger hard drive and put games on the hard drive)
I have a Gameboy Advance with a flash cart, which is like a hard drive.
So as you can see, hard drives are my thing, I rebel against using discs any day.

I have Stickied this FAQ but it needs to be clearer. A nice "Tutorial" as to how to use HDA or HDL with pics etc. and even where to find the files needed BUT NO DIRECT LINKS! When it is fixed I will go over it for the final tweaks and then will perma Sticky as well submit it to aD with credits etc.
Get to workin' guys! GJ and GL.

You booting hdloader from a cd? If so, you should do method 2 of my guide and install hd loader onto your memory card and boot it using a ps1 game.

I have downloaded a version of HD loader. Its in the form of .bin and .cue files. What i need to know is, if i burn this image to CD, can i load it on an unmodded playstation without swap magic etc....?

No you will not be able to, no matter what you burn to a cd. In order to be able to boot burnt media, you MUST either have a swap trick or a modchip. One of those. If you had one of those, that .bin and .cue would work.

You want to use the program faplink. You can get it as a .elf file to put on your memory card, read my guide for how to boot .elf files (method 2). When you find faplink, it will also come with the windows executable too. You need both for it to work.
