im runnin internet through usb wireless

the only LAN connection i have is a wireless one

im pretty sure i need to set up a none wireless one since xbox isn't wireless connection

What do you mean by "LAN Connection"?

If your NIC is installed in the PC correctly, it should be available to configure.

Check your 'Device Manager' for a conflict...

Here's mine:

As you can see, no conflicts.





If you type 'ipconfig /all' into a CMD prompt, you can also see your NIC info...





If you can't get adapter info then your NIC either isn't installed correctly or is missing drivers!

ok i went through CMD to check the status
and its really weird

when i get to the same spot that you have circled, instead of my NIC card (which was working perfectly until i had to reinstall XP on my comp), instead of my NIC card it has my wireless USB ("Linksys Wireless-B USB Network Adapter v2.8")

And where on ur CMD screen it says "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" mine says "Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection"

is my NIC card not installed? missin drivers?

i went through to my add hardware

Have you got a NIC onboard (built into the motherboard) or are you using a PCI one?

Motherboard ones will have drivers on the CD that came with the motherboard, the PCI version will require a download from the manufacturer.

However, in your device manager, the card should be visable, just conflicted.

If it's a PCI card, re-seat it into the motherboard, it may be loose.

Hi, Does anyone know how to set up a Mac to FTP into a xbox?

Sorry I should say using a crosover cable, so direct Mac to Xbox.

The MAC setup is the exact same as PC. Ensure that the IP Addresses are on the same network and then just use an FTP client for MAC.

well i don't really know if its PIC or not its already in my comp came in the comp (dell demension 300 (nothin fancy lol)) i don't know a whole lot about computer components so i can't figure out how to install the driver or which kind i'd even need

i go to add hardware and there's a ? by my NIC driver... but every time i click on a specific driver to install it the comp says it will install it but this driver could possibly make my computer non functioning...

Ok, now we know what's happening.

If you go to:

Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager

You will get the screen I gave you above with the Network Adapter. Yours will have a little icon next to it!

You haven't installed the drivers.

With your PC, you should have gotten a CD\DVD that is for your computer. If you insert that disc, there should be some sort of setup program. Run the driver install.

Also, don't worry about the warnings, that's just Microsoft whinging that some manufacturer complained about having to pay royalties to them!

Yeah I have a question my router/Modem and my IP addres is 192.168.254.4 and im wondering what should i put on my xbox as an IP address...
Also im using Speed Stream and heres what i get when im connecting to my xbox.

Your modem\router can't be the same IP Address. Also, why are they on the 254.x network?

I can easily get you back up and running, but first I need to know a few things!

1) Which configuration is your home network (Refer to the pics at the start of the tutorial)

2 Using the 'ipconfig /all' command in cmd, can you copy & paste that into here so I can see your current config.

3 Which dashboard are running on your xbox?

Much thanks for all the help you provide here for us XBox challenged folks. I have been reading your solutions to others problems over the last couple of days and have tried applying some of those solutions to my own problems yet have no luck due to differences in examples you provide and what I see on my monitor.

My problem is allowing my XBox and PC to see each other so I can view or access files & folders back and forth. I can do so if I use a crossover cable between the two but I am now using Setup B in your example of setups.

First of all I am using the following equipment:
1 PC with onboard NIC
1 1st Generation XBox1 with XMBC Dash (latest version I believe)
1 Westell 2200 DSL Modem (Ethernet connected to router)
1 LinkSys BEFSR41 ver. 4.2 Router
2 Straight-through Ethernet cables (they are NOT crossover cables) 1 connecting Xbox to Router port 2 and the other connecting PC to router port 1.

My Router is setup as such:

My Xbox is setup through XMBC network settings as Automatic (DHCP) with grayed out info listed as such:
IP Address - 192.168.2.101
Network - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.2.1
DNS Server - 192.168.1.254

XBox access the internet fine as I do have ITunes and weather info as proof.

I want to be able to watch PC movies through my XBox on TV and/or access my XBox and XBox DVD from my PC.

What shares or settings I must modify to make them work in harmony is beyond me. My interpretations of your solutions for others has not worked for me either.

Ok, I have a couple of ideas...

1) Check to see what the Modem is doing, it may be setup as a DHCP server also. You can only have one DHCP on the network.

2) What is this?




It has the wrong IP Address to be a part of your network!

3) Try making the Xbox a static address. In a small home network where things don't really change, it's much more stable to manually assign addresses! Also, you may not have done this already, but setup the router to allow traffic from the Xboxs IP address. Also add the PCs one too!

If you browse through my tutorials, it should answer some of your questions.

You MUST have a modded dash (Evox, UnleashX, XBMC, etc) to connect via FTP!

Connect the PC and Xbox via the Speedstream. They should now be able to see each other as long as they are on the same network!

Your Xbox settings (after you install the dash)

IP: 192.168.254.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:192.168.254.4

They can be any address you like, just as long as they are all on the same network!

Most home networks use the 192.168.0.x network.

Basically, without getting technical, as long as the first 3 numbers are the same, the last number only differentiates the connections

Eg.

PC IP : 192.168.0.3
Xbox IP: 192.168.0.5
Router IP: 192.168.0.2

The Subnet Mask for all three must be: 255.255.255.0

i tried all the above and when i try to go online, it says that I need a DNS address. How do I get this?

Your DNS address will be whatever the PC's DNS is. Type 'ipconfig /all' into "cmd" and it should tell you.

Alrighty Chunkhead, I have played and played and played and in the end, I still can't get the PC to see the Xbox or vice-versa. FlashFXP will not connect to the Xbox nor can I ping it from the PC.

I have both the Xbox and the PC set to static IP addresses.

I slapped this together who give you just about every piece of information I can think of.

I cannot get FTP or SMB Shares to work. I have only tinkered with FTP for a few seconds and spent most of my time on SMB Shares.
I do have folders on my PC set to share. One is called SharedDocs and the other is access to a spare drive I have called DONOTUSE (D:) with a folder inside it also set to share called NovaLogic (for setup/test purposes).

All shared folders and drives have xbox listed in the permissions area with FULL Access (for setup/test purposes).


I believe all may problems lay somewhere within the port forwarding and/or SMB Shares setup but I am obviously too xbox network challenge to figure it out.


I hope this helps you understand what I have and how to help me fix it.

Ok, this is what I've gathered from your setup:

Modem = 192.168.1.254
Router = 192.168.2.1
PC = 192.168.2.136
Xbox = 192.168.2.136


Ok, firstly, the Xbox has to be different to the PC.
You may also be having DHCP errors.

1) Disable DHCP in the router. Chances are that the modem is already doing it for you!
The modem is on a seperate network to the rest of the LAN.
For ease of use purposes, we'll change the rest of the LAN to match the modem. Don't forget to save and reboot the router.




2) You should also be able to add "Lan Clients" in your router settings. Add your PC and Xbox addresses.

3) Change your PC IP Address to 192.168.1.101

4) Change your Xbox IP Address to 192.168.1.102

Let me know how you get on.


Just for reference, I use a similar setup.
