I have been burning on 8x dvd-r for a while and accidently bought some 16x. Both are Sony brand but I can't burn on the 16x disks even at slow speeds, Nero will recognize the disk but says that it is a 4x disk and has an error everytime I try to burn.

I have an external Iomega Super DVD burner. I have had this for about a year. This is the info on the bottom of the burner

    P/N 31367200
    Model - DVDRW16XUSB
    CHAE45030Y

I have been on the iomega website and even talked to a representative and they just tell me to use their software which is crap compared to Nero.

If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Although your discs are rated at 16X burn speed it is recommended strongly that you burn at a slower speed of say around 4X. You will find that burning at this speed will reduce the case of errors as compared to 16X

    redrex ,
The problem might be because the blank media does not register in the burner's firmware. Since that is an older burner try and find 8X Verbatim or Maxell blank DVD's and see if the burner recog. that brand. Try the (+) blank media
See if there is a firmware update from the rep at Iomega

you will need to update your firmware to burn on 16X discs even if your burner is only 8X
there is a link in the forum that gwendolin said to look at. find the latest firmware & update it this should work for you.
