I have have backed up tons of dvds but here lately with the newer dvds i have had problems. I am useing anydvd 5.8.3.1 and clonedvd 2 2.8.5.1 everything works fine as far as encoding and burning. When i go to watch the dvd it gets spotty and freezes at about the middle of the movie. My question is there something i should do other than the defaults on the programs? Do i need to change the settings? Its getting frustrating when i go to whatch the movie and wasting dvds. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

This can be caused by poor choice of media, if you are using low quality such as memorex then expect it to happen quite often, memorex causes a lot of burning issues and is not recommended.

As mentioned by gwendolin, Memorex aka CMC MAG is one of the worst media in the market. Furthermore, any unknown brands of media also carried cheap dye, so I don't recommend you or anyone to use them, especially if you value the quality and longevity of your precious backups.

My top 3 choices of high quality media are: (1) Taiyo Yuden, (2) Verbatim "advanced azo or datalife plus" and (3) Maxell (made in japan by Hitachi). Those are top notch media, I've used tons and tons (hundreds near thousand) and I've never experienced any playback issues (i.e. freeze, pause, pixelate, etc.) Additionally, a good rule of thumb is to always burn at 4X - 8X only and make sure your firmware is up-to-date.

    Good luck!!

If I remember right, Clone's default is to burn at max. Try changing it to a lower speed... preferably 4x

It's gotta be the media then. Quality media won't do the things you mentioned. Way back when I started backing up everything, I used to use any blank media that was cheap. Needless to say, that was a mistake because those discs are virtually useless.

I've since only use Verbatims and TY's.
