first, greetings to everyone... this is really great forum, and i decided to take advantage of it in my first post when it comes to computers consider me "iliterate"... yeah i'm a noob. in near future i'm gonna be upgrading memory ( not that urgent, but still), but new graphic card is a must. i got one of those gateway gt 5028 minitowers and they have intergrated graphics (geforce 6100 i believe). besides burninng cd's and stuf, i also like gaming, i'm not hardcore gamer, but still it's kinda passion especially FPS games. from that what i read nvidia is prefered card when it comes to gaming, and drivers. i think 7800gt would be overkill for my system, 'cause my monitor suports max resolution of 1280x1024, so i was thinkin that 6800GT would be better deal for me, even maybe couple of years down the road (i hope). also i read that i would need a new psu, the stock one is 300w, and those gpu's need little more i believe. system specs: AMD x2 3800+ 2x 512MB PC4200 533Mhz DDR2 Dual CHannel Memory Modul Motherboard, i'm not sure, but it supports PCI Express x16 Hard drive is 250 MB i dont know what else would be helpful for you guys to know right now. i appreciate any suggestions and help on these 3 things: 1) memory upgrade to 2gigs for todays and tomorrows demanding games 2) new GPU (i was thinking 6800GT, but maybe there is something better in that range or price) 3) PSU to support more powerful GPU sorry about the long post guys, i appreciate your help
The question that I have is... Are you sure your HD is 250mb? 1). 1gig of memory works just fine. 2). The 6800GT is good but compared to it's little brother the 6800 their praticly the same; the GT just costs more. 3). Get a mobo that matches your GPU and CPU pins. Also try for a motherboard that supports SLI and has four slots for the memory.
