install a new cd writer

    hi how easy is it to install a new cd writer the one i have at the moment is goldstar the new one i want to install is packer bell

    fairly simple unplug your computer power open the case remove your old burner check the jumpers on the back see if they are set to master, slave or cable select set your new burner to the same setting install the burner plug the ribbon and power cables back in reconect your computer power and your computer and os should do the rest

    I little bit harder than screwing in a lightbulb and easier than changing your own oil. If you done it before it takes about 5 minutes. If not maybe 15-20 minutes. Here a nice little instruction site with pictures:

    Just always make sure your grounded when messing around inside of your computer. Once you open it up, you'll be surprised at how easy it is.

    its really, really really easy

    make sure if its your second drive on the cables you have it set to SL (slave) otherwise neither of your drives will work.

    otherwise, you slide the drive into the cage you screw it in, you plug in the power cables and the IDE cables then trun your computer on and test your drive.
