Hi all, I just installed a Sony DRU-810A DVD burner. I did the firmware update from 1a to 1d. I checked the device manager and it states the unit is working properly. I checked the driver to make sure it was current. It will not see any disc I insert. CD or DVD. When I click on the drive I get "please insert disc". Anyone know what is happening?
Have you tried uninstalling the drive from device manager and rebooting? Then when your system reboots it should recognize the drive and reinstall it.
I'll give it a shot and let you know ..... thanks. Update .... Try it, but it didn't work. Windows reports the device is functioning properly. I even when into the add remove hardware and uninstalled it there then reinstall ..... no luck.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Yes that includes all pre recorded cd and DVD ..... it won't read anything. There is a drive test at sony's site, but for some reason they say not to use it unless a tech support person tell you to. I don't get that. Below is the site. http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/diagnostics.htm I checked the connections several times. All connections are ok. Sony tech support told me they didn't recommend I run two burners so I disconnect the one, but got the same results with the new burner. Will not see any discs. HELP!
Make sure the Master/Slave settings are correct on your jumper and connected to the cable in the proper order. Master on the end, slave in the middle. I also know the drive I just hooked up didn't like cable select. When I switched the jumper on both drives to their proper location (Master/Slave) attached to the cable, it recognized mine.
Yeah I tried that and no luck. I decides to go to sony's site and do that drive test. I didn't even get to start it. You are suppose to insert a blank disc to run the test, when I do I get this message .... "Please verify that you have a blank disc in the "Sony DVD RW DRU-810A(1d)" drive, then re-run the test by selecting "<Back". Sounds like the drive is indeed defective.
Has anyone ever done buisness with newegg? That's were I got the defective drive and when I went to get a RMA from its site I got a message that said I couldn't get an online RMA with that product. What's up with that? Anyone done business with them?
Yes, I have, in fact, I have purchased many an item from newegg, and no regrets except for 2 items that I had to send back, and in both cases everything was done on-line (never talked to a person), and very quickly received a new unit. Good luck, Rich
Oh Oh does that mean I can't get a refund? I would think one would get a choice to return or get a refund. What's up with that? Why can't I get my money back. Anyway I want to ask a question about this drive .... I talked with someone from Sony and the tech said the drive is defective. Then I got this email .... We will need to continue with some more troubleshooting steps. First you will need to open up your Device Manager(go under your Start menu, right click on My Computer, left click on Properties, and the Device Manager should be a tab listed there) - Then click on the + next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers - You should have a Primary IDE Channel, Secondary IDE Channel, and a third controller(Intel or SIS or VIA) - Double click on the third controller, go under the Driver tab, click the Update Driver button - The Upgrade Device Driver window will open, click Next - Select "Display a List of the Known Drivers..." then click Next - Under "Model" select the Standard Dual Channel.., and click Next - The Wizard will tell you that it is ready to install, so click Next - Once it is done, choose Finish Second, you need to double click on the Secondary IDE Channel, click on the Advanced Settings tab, then change the Transfer Mode for Device 0 from DMA to PIO. Then click Okay At this point you can close the Device Manager and any other windows that happen to be open. You can reboot from here and the drive should work without a problem. Now the part about the controller I can deal with, but won't changing the controller to PIO slow things way the hell down? Comments ..... thoughts on this?
I have had similar problems with upgrading drives and it seems to be a windows issue. I am have that happen right now again with a dula layer i just installed, for some reason the drive doesnt refresh. There are alot of others with the same problem with all types of burners so good luck!
Yes, and some other problems that have been reported. However, why not do as they say, and after re-booting changed it pack to DMA, just for Sh*ts and giggles. Good luck, Rich
Here's a good guide to change to DMA. DMA -----> http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf HTH, Rich
I tried what sony tech suggested but no luck ..... I didn't change the DMA to PIO that sounds like a very bad idea so I won't go that far. Guess I will have to contact newegg tommorrow I'd like a refund but it sound like I can only get an exchange. I'll let you know what happens.
Well I talked with newegg and they are taking the drive back no problem. I had to pay for shipping, but all I have to do is fax them the receipt and I will get my money back. I did have a choice between refund and replacement. Since the reviews on it were pretty good and I checked out other drives too with similar reviews I decided to try again. I was told as long as I decide within a 30 day period I could get a refund. It is on its way back today. It will take four days to reach them. Anyone think there is a better choice at a similar price let me know. Thanks.
