    I've burnt 500+ dvd's. I have updated my firmware. I switched to XP and -R will not burn. I can burn +R and +RW but that's it. I know it is a software problem or conflict. I can take another hard drive with Win 2000 on it, change nothing else, put it in computer and burn -R +R and +RW.

    beasty666,

    Is DMA on for your burner in XP? Also, you are using different disc between Win2k and WinXP, and of course it worked in Win2k, have you tried using the same brand of discs in XP as you did in Win2k?

    I cannot believe you need to re-install XP to resolve this. Perhaps the best thing to do is uninstall the Secondary IDE channel's drivers that your burner SHOULD be on, and then re-boot, and XP will re-install the drivers, and turn DMA on.

    HTH,

    Rich

    DMA is on in XP and Win 2000. Yes I have used same brand of disk in XP but -R will coaster and +R will burn. I've also tried 3 different brands of -R. All will burn in Win 2000 and none will burn in XP.

    I will try to uninstall drivers. Thanks

    Very, very weird. One thing that is an advantage with +R they are the only discs that can be booktype to DVD-ROM (+R's are the only ones I use for that reason, which means they will play on any standalone DVD player), so that could be a good thing, unless, of course, your burner cannot be booktyped.

    Good luck, and sorry,

    Rich

    @sytyguy

    Well after several weeks of trial and error. I can finally burn -R in XP. I'm still not sure how. I uninstalled drivers like you said and rebooted. I made another coaster, then in Decrypter I saw a test box so I checked it. It tested perfect. Then I tried another -R and it burnt perfect. I'm up to 2 so far in XP. Thanks for everybodys help!

    @sytyguy
    You said you can booktype a +R into a Dvd-Rom. Does this mean if you have a stand alone player that plays only -R, you can burn a +R with a Dvd-Rom booktype and it will play in the player that only plays -R?

    All DVD players are suppose to play DVD-ROM discs, that is a given from my experiences. So yes, booktyping makes the +R disc look like DVD-ROM disc.
