hey guys i just need an honest opinion about which drive i should get for the system im building. Gonna be a budget gamer system but i heard so many good things about the raptor i jsut wanted to get one but its pretty pricey. i was looking at getting a 74 GB raptor for 140 bux vs a 98 dollar 250 GB MAxtor Diamondmax SATA hd with 16 mb cache. Now i am eventually going to get both of these drives, and let my OS run on the Raptor, but should i wait to see if it goes down in price? I might buy the maxtor first and wait and see if the raptor goes down in priec, then buy the raptor and put the OS on that one or should i go ahead and buy the raptor now? Thanks
If gaming go with Raptor. Everyone wants extra GB's, but you wouldn't believe the difference in a 10,000RPM vs. 7200RPM hard drive. Buy both, put the fast one as your "Windows" drive and the other big one as storage.
how much more of a difference is the raptor? like level loading, and how long does it take to load windows from power on? im sorry if im being a nuisance its just i dont have much money and i have to buy these things about a month apart so i wanna know if thers a significant difference
raptor is king of HDs, hands down. Don't buy maxtor anyways, as they no longer exist. They have just been bought out by Seagate.
Sounds like an airplane taking off, loud, but power on speeds are fast. Loading anything is fast. I don't personally have one, but installed one for a friend a month ago and he raves.
I have a WD74 Raptor and it’s very fast. My second drive is a Maxtor 6 B300SO 16mb cache. The Raptor has the OS and the Maxtor is storage. I’m very happy with both of them. The Raptor drive is a little bit bulky compared to other drives. It also has cooling fins to dissipate the heat. Make sure you do not stack the two drives on top of each other. Keep them far apart as possible. The Raptor runs hot and needs air circulation. I suppose you shouldn’t stack any drives on top of each other but especially don’t do it with the Raptor.
how much does ur 16 mb WD compare to the raptor? is it much of a difference, i was planning on doing the same exact thing you are, just wanna know if its worth it for a budgeter like me to cough up the extra cash to get a raptor instead of a normal sata
You can search the web for comparison tests. I don’t know what your budget is. You wouldn’t want to buy a Raptor and skimp on other components but in answer to your question, the Maxtor 16mb cache is fast but not as quick as the Raptor.
