    I bought a 50 pack of Memorex DVD-R 16X 4.7GB 120Min.
Only 5 out of the 50 were recognized in my dvd burner.

    Specs of my system:

Gateway P4 Windwos XP Media Center
    DVD-+R/RW Burner HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B

    Software:
    Clone DVD2 & Any DVD.

Anyone have any ideas on what's going on?

You will find many threads relating to the woes of using memorex, these are possibly the worst discs there are and most problems stem from their use.
Apparently it is the poor quality dye used in their manufacture. I would bite the bullet and use them as coasters or frisbies and then buy some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

Gwen is right but here is a suggestion. Try updating your firmware, if it's out of date that is. But that is a really poor bandaid for a huge problem.

Actually i searched the forum a bit..

Thanks for the info..i really thought there was something wrong w/ my burner.

I have already flashed the firmware update to A116

Which i believe is the highest avail.

Actually, the latest is A117 according to this site,

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

Memorex discs do have many issues, however some of their discs can be very good, since they purchase from many manufacturers. The best way to find out the media codes (the next time) is to download/run either DVDInfoPro at http://www.DVDInfoPro.com or DVD_identifier at http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm
And run them against your NEW discs. Although, 5 out 50 would indicate that they are truely bad, so take gwendolin's advice and purchase Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

    Good luck,

    Rich

That has nothing to do with the driver. This is firmware, which is written directly to the burner.

Identify media and firmware download/run it is free--> Try DVD Identifier V4.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com
