I have a Presario 7000 model 7QSM11 running Windows ME. The CD-R on the computer isnt being detected and it wont even open. This started occuring ever since I formatted the hard drive and performed a quick restore with the system disks provided by compaq. Previous to that, the drive worked well. I am certain that the CD-R is plugged in correctly, so I believe this may be a driver or bios issue. Please help me out with this one. I've looked for drivers from compaq, but their service is non existant ever since they got bought out by HP.

Any help you can give me would be terrific.

    Thanks

CD-R or CDRW? Did you burn and insert and can't recognize the cdr(w)? The cd-r is to be inserted in the DVD\CD-Rom or CDRW (burner) drive m8.

When I said CD-R I really meant the CD-RW Drive. It will not open (the tray will not eject) when the computer is started up and is not recognized in windows. For more information on the system I am running you can look at my post above. It has worked and then stopped working and then worked again and then stopped working... it changes when I restart and a message comes up "Updating device drivers: 1 [Maxtor] 3 [CD-Rom]"
Its like it skips over the CD-RW drive. Any help would be great.
    Thank you.

I had the same problem using WinXP. Reboot your pc and in the boot process manually press the eject button on your burner until the cdrw pops out. After you've done this with success and your on your desktop, follow these instructions. Right click My Computer>properties>Hardware tab folder>Device Manager>. Now click the + beside DVD/CD-Roms and see how many devices are listed. Here you should see your DVD\CD-Rom and cdrw (burner) listed. if you don't then reply back to this thread.

My problem is with the actual opening of the tray... If i could get it open, it would be no problem, but the tray wont open, and the power is connected. Any idea why this may be?
