I didn't see this in the forums in the past, so here goes. Is there a way to convert a ps/2 mouse to USB without me having to scour the earth or pay the 2 bucks for one? I'm a lazy shopper and quite frankly I prefer to do my own mods to all my equipment. Is there anyone out there that can help me?
If you even bothered to read my post, I would like to do it myself for learning experience. I would like a point in the direction of instructions.
Its too much work to splice the wires and that. I dont even think someoneo would bother when there is one commercially made.
if know somebody that has that ps2/usb adapter, see if it works with your mouse. if works than open your mouse & use a multimeter to see which wire of the mouse goes to what contact on the usb. than get a cheap usb cable than can be gotten for a dollar, chop of the end you don't need & see which wire goes to which contact in the usb. once that is done than desolder old ps2 cable & solder on the usb cable with the correct wiring to work.
A standard type A USB connector is from left to right: Pin 1 +5V Pin 2 Data - Pin 3 Data + Ping 4 Grnd For a type B USB connector, hold it so that the smaller end is on top Pin 1 will be the top right, go counter-clockwise to the rest of the pins in order For PS2 connectors, the pinouts are: http://www.burtonsys.com/PS2_keyboard_and_mouse_mini-DIN-6_connector_pinouts.html
