I have been looking for a solution to this problem. I am not a newbie to DVD Burning but I am to the 16X DVD+R'S. My DVD burner is 16x and the discs im using are Memorex 16X DVD +R's...all the other specs are the exact same as the discs I use to burn onto even the brand. The problem I am having is that ever since I switched from Memorex 8X DVD+R to 16X, the DVD's will not work on any of my DVD players...Not even on my lap top which is fairly new...The DVD burns perfectly fine as did the 8X and does play in the burner sort of...when I play it through the burner I can get to the title menu then it freezes and skips around then finally jus freezes and I can hear the disc skipping in every DVD Player I put it in...Can anyone help me or tell me what the problem is? I could not find any references through search... Thank You
The media is the problem. You should definately stop using Memorex media. It's pure CMC MAG garbage and is not recommended at all. Try using better media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Also, if you're burning at max speed, slow it down a little. Even with good media, if you burn at max speed, you may get errors or failed burns.
I am at max burn speed I could slow it down but the speed has always worked at max with the 8x...and the Memorex have always worked for me...could max speed be screwing up how the 16x plays on a player? I get successful burn everytime with the CloneDVD2...
Hi there, Burning Memorex media at high speed, is as good as puting Sugar in your gas tank. See how good it works Definitly slow down the burn speed on the Memorex, I would suggest 2x but 4x might work ! Media ID: CMC Mag are 4th Class quality media !
The DVD records properly or so CloneDVD 2 says...but then i try to play it after in my DVD player actually multiple different players...and in one it actually works but skips then totally freezes you think by slowing down the burn speed on a 16x it will fix this problem? I used the 8x at this max speed and they work perfectly fine on everything?
MHolt: Download this free handy program to find the exact manufacturer of those Memosux +16x: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd-r_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm Open up dvd identifier/select drive/insert disc/click identify. Click on the clipboard and paste it in your next post. Also find the MID code for those backups that were on +8x media.Post that info also. It'll look something like this: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:MCC-004-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [Not Available] Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.] Manufacturer ID : [MCC] Media Type ID : [004] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x , 6x-16x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since they are skipping in all you players, slow her down to 8x. If they turn out to be cmags, you may have to go down to 4x. Sounds like you are getting major errors on them at the 16x burn speed. Try a scanning test by: Nero speed test or dvdinfopro: Try dvdinfopro, and download the free version with adverts: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ You can scan those backups with the PI/PO test. It'll also ID your media. Test out one of the 8x backups and see how many errors are on them.
Here is the 16x DVD+R ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:RICOHJPN-R03-004] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [DVD+R] Manufacturer Name : [Ricoh Co. EEWWWWWWW!!!!!! Memorex-COUGH COUGH!!!, If your looking for better media try Maxells,or better yet verbatim.......
the 16x are ricohs.. not bad.. that's actually what i got on a pack that was given to me.. you can do those.. but you need to update, make sure you have the correct firmware. and burn them at either 4x the 8x.. just toss them.
Your drives perform better with the 8x cmags than the 16x ricohs? Slow them down to 8x and test them on your stand alones. I went 94 of 100 on the Office Depot +16x's with that same MID code. I only paid $20 for them. 3 coastered out, than after checking the rest of the spindle-3 more had the same defect. Other than that bad section of the spindle, they were very good. I did burn them at 4x though. Now my memosux +8x cmags, I definetely had to burn them at 2.4x and 4x just to get my players to play them ok.A couple of my drives really shows the quality of cmags with pixellation and freezing.
Hey guys thanks a lot...it worked! I slowed down to 4x and I made two copies so far with no problem they actually worked better than normal...haha thanks a lot...now a new problem I am trying to back up the movie flightplan and i am getting an error in clonedvd at 16% progress when it is copying to the hard drive it says "One or more blocks may be corrupted by a prior copying process or by the source device covering critical read errors." I retried several times. AnyDVD says the following... Summary for drive D: Drive (Hardware) Region: 1 Media is a Data DVD. Booktype: dvd-rom (version 1), Layers: 2 (opposite) Video DVD (or CD) label: FLT0NNW1 Media is CSS protected! Video Standard: NTSC Media is locked to region(s): 1! RCE protection not found. Found & removed wrong DVD structure! Structural copy protection not found. Autorun not found on Video DVD. Bad sector protection not found. Emulating RPC-2 drive with region 1! Can anyone help me with this new problem?
yes the newbie has arrived, anyways I am having the same problem as Mholt, using same software, and same 16x memos, my backups will start playing fine in my player, but soon they start getting jumpy, colors start going nuts, and the damn subtitles show up all over the place. I tried adjusting my burn speed down to 4x, but when I backed my copy of saw 2 up today, it worked fine up until about 40 mins into the movie when it blinks and freezes. I have used TDK discs and they did the samething so I had to reburn them, is there anything else I may be jacking up. Is it better to go with dvd+/-r or dvd+/-rw?
