today i just got 2 sticks of 256mb, i already have 1 stick of 512mb in my computer now and it will allow up to 4gb of ram so i put both sticks in and it gives me a beep about ever 3 seconds or so but i can take 1 stick out and it works just fine giving me 768mb of ram so whats the problem???
try each stick by its self in each slot you may have a bad slot or a bad stick somtimes a different order of the moduals makes a difference is your ram Sd or DDR
no thats not the proplem u proply have four ram slots and ithink tow are blue and two are black or somting like that u only can put to rams or for but not three so ur hop is to buy anthr ram or take away on ram and 100%\ sure
give me the make and model of your board if the slots are in pairs they may be for different speeds of ddr
i played with them switched them around each stick works just fine i just cant have 3 in at a time or it will beep. here is the make and model i have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128286&ATT=13-128-286&CMP=OTC-B1zrat3 so you think i will need to get another stick of ram before they will work?
Thats why? You have a dual channel board. You can only run pairs or one stick. Ya better hope the pair yeah running is a matched set or your going have instability issues.:>
they are not a matching pair so can i go buy a 512mb to match my 512mb? while i keep my 2 sticks of 256mb in?
No by exact pair I mean same density...same speed...etc....same size....same brand name. They do sell matched pairs, but its not necassary as long as you go by the above rules.
the manual has an excelent section on ram instalation if you dont have one get it from here http://www.giga-byte.com/Download/D...erBoard/FileList/Manual/manual_k8nsc939_e.pdf ozzy214 is right 3 sticks wont work with dual channel
Sorry I missed out on this conversation, but some Gigabyte boards can run Dual Channel mode with 3 sticks of memory. I called their support, and for my old board, it was slots 1,2 and 4. Not 1,2, and 3 which would be a typical choice. I had the same prob on my old board, the GA-7N400-L. It's always a good thing to talk with manufacturer's tech support as well, cuz there just might be exceptions to the rule.
