If you have a set of recovery discs just put the first one in and go from there. If not you could get a xp disc and re install. I'm not sure what kind of computer you have or what operating system your running so depending on those elements there may be other ways.

Make sure before you start to do this you back-up anything that is important to you.

i have a sony vaio. it came with 2 discs. the 1st one looks like it has the programs that came with it. i didn't see anything about rebooting. the 2nd disc has 1 folder on it and when i opened its folder, it had some type of file on it. i couldn't tell what it was because it was the type of file thast when you try to open it, the computer asks if you would like to open it with a program on the list or search the web for the appropriate program. i right clicked the file and one of my options was to burn the file to disc. i wouldn't think that the disc would have to burned to another disc. the thing with getting another xp disc, i don't want to have to buy a new one and if i get a copy, after i install it won't let me d/l all the updates (sp2) because the registrations wont match.

any of this make any sense?

Since you have a vaio you have the option to create the recovery discs or order them from Sony (for a fee). I've long since formatted my vaio so I don't remember where its located. The thing sony does is reserve a small portion of the HDD for the recovery discs. Search around you should be able to find it. Look in system restore first I think thats where it was.

HDD = Hard Disc Drive. Thats your hard drive where all data is stored. By pressing f2 I believe that will take you into the bios or safe mode not sure.

When you click Start> All Programs Is there something that says Vaio Recovery?
