Keeping imported movie within safe area

I am using DVDit 6 and when I import a AVI movie, it is displayed outside Screen Safe area.
The movie frame size was 640 x 480. Reading the Help files, it says movies need to 352 x 288. I resized the movie, but still it is
shown outside the Screen Safe area. The particular AVI movie is a PC
screen capture and shows the desktop icons etc., which is the full size of the monitor. When movie is played back after authoring DVD, the edges of the movie (outside the safe zone) are missing. Is there a way of
keeping the movie within the Screen safe zone?
I can build menu within safe area and link to movie. Looks fine when played back on PC, but when played back via TV, edges of movie are missing (out of safe area).
    Got any ideas?

i dunno if dvdit supports this but the easiest way i know is to use avisyth i got it here:
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Avisynth

you can read about it on that page but basically you import a .avs linked to that avi and avisynth applies certain changes to the video stream as its read by the other program (dvdit)

heres the simpliest .avs youd make for tv safe:
this has to be in the same folder as the avi unless you soecify the full path -also if you wanna do widescreen the sizes are a little different ( LanczosResize(660,330) & AddBorders(30,75,30,75) )

Thanks Nomad, I'll look that up and give it a try.
