    Hello

I was wondering if someone could take a look at my recode log and tell me what the issue is. I have been using Nero for over 2 years now and never had this issue. My old burner finally crapped out so I picked up a Memorex external USB drive. No matter what kind of disc I used, I get the Illegal Disc Error. ALso, when I set the writing speed for 2 or 4x, it writes at 6x. What is the problem?

First edit out your serial no before it gets pirated

Although it shouldn't be a problem try to free up some memory, close down all unnecessary progs including spyware and dont multi task while burning

You are burning too close to the edge of the disc set target to 4300

    try burning at 4X

These are horrible discs, try using Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, CMC discs cause a lot of burn errors.

Thanks for your help, Gwendolyn. Nero is acting strangely all of a sudden. It is only giving me the option to burn at 2, 2.4, 4x or Maximum. No matter what I select, it starts burning at 6x. It has never done this before so I am more than a little confused. As for multi-tasking, I set up the disc to burn and walked away, but I will try closing some of the background items, maybe there is a conflict somewhere.

Trying better discs is a definite option, so far the discs I have tried to burn with have been Memorex, Sony, TDK, and Maxell.

Just gonna throw this out there, but it also can be a communication problem between your comp and the external. I have used a number of externals and sometimes the chipset in the external is just not compatible with the computer. Have you tried burning with another program and see if you get different results. I had one external that would give me the BSOD if I tried to disconnect it using XP.

I think you might be on to something. Nero doesn't seem to know that my drive is 16x, so there maybe a communication failure somewhere along the way. I wonder if updating my USB drivers would help.

You may want to uninstall the InCD program if you are not using it, InCD has been known to cause some problems. If you want to keep it make sure you have it disabled on startup.
