I burn some dvds and they play ok on stand alone dvd players, but when it comes to DVD-ROM (PC) they skip all the time :-(

Can someone please tell me if there is something i can do about this? I have tried cleaning both rom and disks but nothing happens.. I have read something about DMA settings and a thing called ForceASPI . Can someone please tell me where to find this thing and how to use them?

    thanks

I take this thread as you have both a dvd-rom along with a dvd-rw drive?

1)Your stand alones are playing those backups ok
    2) Your dvd-rom is showing playback issues with them.
    3) If this is a separate dvd-rom or combo cd-rw/dvd-rom drive, those issues need verified by playing them on the pc using the dvd-rw drive that produced them.

If your backups are skipping on the dvd-rom drive then, and you cleaned the laser lens, then probably a worn out drive. Aspi shouldn't have much to do with playback issues when it's only on 1 drive. You need to confirm that issue with the burner drive that produced those backups. They should be near perfect. Also answer Glue eaters question of what brand name/format/and speed rate of media you are using.Media quality is the most common for this issue. Here's some more things that will cause those issues:

    Multi-tasking
    Paper/sticker labels
    Burn program
    Fragmented hard drive
Burned too fast/too slow= too many errors
    Spyware/ malware
    Dirty laser lens

What dvd programs do you have?

I use nero,so it has its own aspi layer. If you have nero6,just post back the burn log so we can have a good look at it. When I use neroinfotool,it tells me aspi layer is not installed.
