Help. I can't figure out whats going wrong. I dont know if its the type of media im using, or my dvd player, or the software I'm using to burn the backup. Before I waste another disc, I seek you all for some assistance.

First off, I used DVD Decryptor to make an .iso. I then used ImgBurn to backup onto my media. The disc plays perfectly on my sony dvd player untill it gets to the second layer. When I try to play the disc on my pc it wont even run. Media Player starts to run it then it freezes and power dvd wont even run it at all.

    Here is what I'm using:

    Plextor PX-716A with latest firmware.
Media: GQ DVD+RL Im burning at 4x
    Softwares: DVD Decryptor & ImgBurn
    DVD Player: Sony DVP-NS315

If I missed any necessary specs that may assist in trouble shooting please let me know.

The media you are using is garbage. Generic Quality is exactly that, generic. Stop being such a cheap bastard and buy the Verbatim DL media instead. Should be some sales starting Sunday(10pk for $19.99). You also want to burn at 2.4x to start. Once you get the results you are looking for, then start experimenting with faster burns. Change the booktype to DVD-Rom while you're at it, too. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

It's all about the media. If you go cheap in the beginning you will pay for it in the long run. Pay extra upfront it's worth it.

Verbatim +r DL and booktype those bad boys to dvd-rom!

I like your plexy/programs/and player. When it comes to DL backups,I don't think I'd use any other dl media out there, other than verbatim +R DL.

I had a sony dvp-ns325 and it was a great player. After a year or so,the wear and tear on her made my DL backups very difficult to play. She showed problems on quality single layer media, but a lens cleaning helped. My first Dl backup on that drive was all it took to find a $30 replacement drive.

Make sure your plextor can play those backups using that drive on your pc. It should play near perfect. Carefully watch where the layer break is on your pc.

When you are using Shrink did you check ''remove layer brake''?

You don't need DVD Shrink if you are burning to a DL disc, make sure you are burning from the MDS file created by DVD Decrypter, it contains the layer break information.

I'm not using DVD Shrink - I'm using ImgBurn to burn the files. Ok, I'm waiting for a sale on verbatims to come along - please come along, but in the meantime I tried another one of the top quality discs I have from GQ.. ha! I changed the book type in ImgBurn to DVD-Rom and burned it at 2x's and the disc now plays perfectly in my sony home dvd player and on my computer. Go GQ's.... haha -

any1 have any idea about how long before dl's actually become more affordable?

    @DxxZY

I was actually talking to monce about the DVD Shrink usage, I apologize for my sorriness...LOL

I hope the price for DL's come down next week for good, I'll go snatch some up and stop using Recode. Glad you got it working. Happy burning.

    DxxZY,
When I did my 1st d/l burn it was over 1 year ago and the price was about $4.50 US per disk. It is now down to 10 Verbatim (+) for $19.95 at BestBuy and they advertise that about once a month. I expect the price to start dropping alot when the Blue-Ray or HD disks hit the market
