    Hello, all!

I'm quite new to DVD burners. I just bought a Lite-On 165H6S from Newegg. I am trying to install the Nero software that came with the burner and it doesn't seem to want to fully install.

During the installation process it comes to a point where is says that it will install the Lightscribe stuff and that it will "take a few minutes". At this point it basically just quits the install and puts me right back to the multiinstaller window.

I cannot get my burner to work and I'm assuming it's because the install is not completing for some reason. Is it just a bad install disc? Or, is there something more?

BTW, if I try to do a burn the Nero application freezes up and comes back with an "Internal Error" message box.

    Very frustrated!

Thanks in advance for any help.

If the disc came with a serial number (some oem discs don't), then go to nero.com and download the program from there. The disc could be bad which would cause the information to be read wrong (or not at all). If your burner is not working, you could have a bad ide cable. Look in your my computer folder to see if the drive is being detected. If you don't see it there, then the computer can't even see it. If that's the case, change the ide (ribbon) cable. If it is still not recognized, send it back for replacement.

The drive should be able to burn using the built in windows burning program (if the drive was good). If the nero disc was any good, it should be able to install even without a burner because it's capable of burning to the hard drive (a burner is not required).

    Forgot to mention...
    1) Run a cleanup.
    2) Make sure to defrag your drive. A corrupt drive corrupts installs.
    3) Make sure there is no dust buildup on the fans or case. A messy computer is an unhappy one.

Thanks for the words of advice. I appreciate it!

I think I found a way to make it work. When I install each of the components of the Nero Suite seperately it works. I'm thinking that the "Install Suite" button within the MultiInstaller was not working for some odd reason.

I've already burned a couple of DVD's and was able to get into the LightScribe feature, although I haven't used it yet.

Now, my buddy says I should download this DVDshrink program. Will I need that?

Also, I am trying to play DVD movies on my computer using Windows Media PLayer and I can't get any sound. I've downloaded the most recent version of WMP and tried various other things to get it to work to no avail. Any ideas? I'm thinking it has something to do with decoding?

    Thanks again!

    Greg
