I used nero vision express and when it's done transcoding the video files it tells me to insert a blank media. So I insert a blank DVD-R and it still says insert a blank media. I would like to know if it's my dvd writer drive that's not reading it, or nero isn't working or the media itself that is causing the problem? Can someone please help me? My DVD drive is HP DVD Writer 200j and I'm using Maxell DVD-R 8x. Is something not compatible here? Do I need to Download something to make it work? Please help
dazed06, Not finding too much info on that writer. All people are pointing to it as a 200i. It is an OEM and if it is the 200 series it does not burn (-) DVD and the max speed is 2.4. Try a (+) DVD or call the manuf of the computer because they carry the warranty as HP does not. One thing you might have problem w/ it the age of the burner and the new blank media as it might not be compatible as new firmware has to be issued for the burner so it will be able to see and recog the blank media. You might just need to upgrade to a better burner
I right clicked on the drive and looked at the hardware and it looks like a 200J but i also looked up HP's site and i as well also found only 200i. So I'm not so sure. so if i upgrade the firmware will it let me use dvd-r or will it still be the same? and why won't it let me burn to dvd-r? and the computer is also hp i bought it in 2002 and never really got to use the dvd writer only because i never knew how. i'm just disappointed now that i bought a bunch of dvd-r and it wont read or write to it. =(
I do not think upgrading the firmware will turn the burner to a (-) burner. Just try very good blank media Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, Maxell and try to find 8X but again there is no guarantee that the burner will see the disk as you might need a firmware upgrade and I doubt HP or the computer manuf will write one for a burner that old. Do not forget it is (+) media
oh ok. well i guess thats that. i'll just go get some dvd+r. but do u know anything about matshita uj-840d dvd writer? can it write to dvd-r? i tried looking but can't find anything maybe i didn't look hard enough? just wondering beacuase thats what i have on the laptop. haha and i need to find something that will be compatible with these dvd-r i bought. should of just bought a few just to try it... u think i can return it even if i opened it? lol...
I looked also. They might burn (-) DVD's so you might as well try it unless the company will take back the DVD's as being defective. (i.e. My computer's burner does not recog. this blank media it is worth a try) The problem is you will be trying to burn a DVD Movie on a laptop and they do tend to heat up alot. You might need to get a cool-pad as that might help. Also both drives are really not even close to being top of the line as they are closer to the bottom but this is what the Big Box companies are putting into the laptops. Firmware update is like a computer update that tells the burner it is OK to burn this type of DVD as the manuf of the burner has tested that blank media and has written a code that allows the burner to see it and write the lead-in properly
thanks for all your help car.mike. i guess all these companies selling pc's are just putting the cheap stuff in it. and i couldn't find any firmware for any of the drives. i guess best thing for me to do is to just go out and buy some dvd+r and be done with or many a new dvd writer drive. haha
thanks for that info. i was looking into getting an external one. since i don't know how to take the computer apart to install the new drive. and do u happen to know how to burn iso files? i have one ps2 iso file and one dvd iso file i can't seem to figure out how to burn them to make it work on the ps2 and the dvd player.
