    Hi,

I've been reading around the forum a bit and whilst I may be asking a question that has been answered in different ways, I am looking for an EASY and FREE solution! Big ask I know but i'll get on with it...

I recently purchased an LG Dual-Layer 8X burner to go with my Sony DVD-ROM.

Now I'd like to copy some of my movies (Legitimately, I might add as I own a large collection of original copy DVDs) to a backup DVD that is capable of playing on a stand-alone player.

The obvious problem here is that dual-layer discs are too expensive, and the DVDs are copy-protected. This leaves the option of ripping the DVD to a compressed format and copying to a 4.7Gb blank DVD.

So, my question is, is there some piece of software out there that is cheap and easy to use, that will rip a DVD to PC in a compressed format, and then burn back to DVD (It doesn't matter if these are different programs as long as they are easy and free).

On another note, the bundled software (NEro Express 6 and PowerProducer) both hang when I go to import a video file. Not sure why, running fairly good system. Any known issues with these would help.

    Thanks!

Nero has a DVD compression program called Nero Recode2 That is what I use. But it dosent surcomvent the copy protection on it.

So you need a program like DVD43(which is free) or AnyDVD(free trial for 21 days best program out there that keeps updated on new copy protection that comes out)

You could find a copy of DVDShrink for compression which is free.

Lots to choose from just do a search in the forum and go to the Guides section and software section and read up on how to do what with what.

Ok, great, I will download DVD43 and DVDShrink when I am in front of my home PC.

In relation to the other query, any idea why Nero 6 Express and PowerProducer both freeze up when I try to import video files for burning?

    Thanks for the help.
