I recently started using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to backup protected and non-protected DVDs. I am using a Sony DW-22A burner which I understand is an OEM drive for a Dell, but I bought it in an external case and am using it with my Averatec 3150HS-01 with XP Home. My first several backup attempts worked just fine, but all of a sudden when I attempt to burn, the software tells me that it cannot write to medium - incompatible format. I am using Verbaitm DVD-R 8X disks and am writing at 4X. I am pretty ignorant of the technology and have tried plodding my way through the help available on the web, but much of it is Greek to me. I have Nero express SE which I have tried to use with the ISO files created by DVD Decrypter and I get the same results. My successful backups were made using DVD Decrypter to burn, not Nero. I made sure that Nero has the latest updates and am at a loss as to what my next step should be. Any suggestions? Many thanks....

What is your burner's firmware? An update might fix media incompatibility. To check that, open DVD Decrypter:

The firmware is BYS2 and no updates are available that I can find. I understand that this drive is a rebranded Liteon SOHW-1633S. There are updates available for it but my drive won't accept them (or I don't know how to force it).

This problem may have emerged after I installed the latest Nero updates. I have since uninstalled Nero and tried to burn with DVD Decrypter with the same result.

Thanks, now we're getting somewhere. I updated the firmware and made another attempt to burn. It appeared that it was going to work, then I got an I/O Error that the semaphore timeout period has expired. Gonna see what I can find on this problem. Thanks for the info on the firmware.

OK....tried another disk just for grins and it is burning!! I'm loving this. I'm not sure what the error was all about, but if it repeats I'll yell for some help if I'm unable to find a solution on my own. Thanks for your time.
