Hey you. I have been reading with interest the shrink/decrypter forum, and was excited to be able to copy dvd. But alas problem, (and I am sure I have seen a similiar problem) my computer doesn't recognise the new disk. What am I doing wrong (other than breathing? LOL) Cheers, Red Nagoomby
Does you drive recognized a burned -R or +R disk? If so, it could be that it just doesn't like RW media. Is it an older drive? Is the RW disk you used a + or - format disk?
Hey you. What disks were you using before and what is the format of the ones you're using now? Post the equipment model and use DVD Identifier (free) and post the media information. What is your firmware version? You may simply need a firmware update.
Thnx for the replies... What I should have said (more articulately) was that, I did not even get to the stage of burning the ISO file to the DVD, because it does not recognise that there is disk in it (Even though I can clearly see (just out of wrapper) TDK DVD-RW. Although, in this drive it will write to CD-RW, does that make a difference, and also play DVD? Thus, because I am a nagoomby, is the basic assumption I have made that because the drive says dVD/CD-RW, it should accept DVD-RW disks ~incorrect? DVD identifier thinks so, as when I run it on this media, it advises .. DVD Identifier V4.3.0 [00:20:39] Initializing Drive Interface [Auto-Select ASPI/SPTI] [00:20:39] SPTI Drive Interface Successfully Initialized [00:20:39] No Supported Drives Found (Out Of 1 Available Drive) [00:20:39] Disc Identification Requires A DVD, HD DVD or Blu-Ray Writer [00:20:39] Manufacturer Database [18-FEB-06@660$88] Loaded From File : (@660$88) Entries Found [00:20:39] Internet Version Check Postponed Since Last Check Happened Less Than 1 Hour Ago So does that mean I do not even have a DVD drive?. (stop LOL) I am now trying to find out how to find firmware (Brobear), and trying to look into forms as to how I do that. Nuffy Newbie Nagoomby
Okay. You didn't give the model but you supplied some info. You appear to have a DVD player/ CD RW combo. Those play DVDs, but do not record to them. Seems you have a DVD player and not a burner, except for the CDs of course, different format. That's why DVD Identifier is saying you don't have a supported drive.
Hey you . The model is a Toshiba Satellite M50 series. The reason that I am a touch vague on this, is that it came as part of a Franchise we have purchased, so I am learning as I go. Also, the fact that it has Sonic record now and also DLA software, I was under the impression that it burnt also. But remember I am a Nagoomby.. rednagoomby
The M50 only tells me what model PC you have. I still have no idea what the drive is. I don't guess it matters, it's not a DVD burner.
Damn, so that is why the little blighter won't write and recognise the disk. Sorry about the wasted time....but thanks for the responses anyway rednagoomby
Hey you , the nuffy nagoomby is back again. bro bear i took on board your last comment, and actually made the call to Toshiba who advise the PC has a burner. It is a "Built-In SuperMulti Double/Dual layer Drive (DVD+R DLx2.4, DVD-R DLx2, DVD-RAMx5, DVD±Rx8, DVD±RWx4)" So based on the above, I supposedly do have a DVD burner, so then why does it not recognise the DVD .media, and ask to insert a blank disk? I have read elsewhere that it can be an issue with firmware, which brobear suggested (Q? how do I get the details on my firmware , and from where?), also people discussing sonic, nero etc. I had not tried to copy to this drive till after I had loaded and used shrink, and decrypter, which involes unenabling nero, would this cause the drive not to read the DVD media. It will play, just not burn. Also,as you can see above identifier didn't pick up a drive...Sooooo still needing you yoda, please advise and thanks for your time. Cheers, rednagoomby
Why in the world did they give you all that info and not the brand and model burner used in your PC? Most of the time when we have a newbie with a drive not recognized by the software, it turns out to be a player instead of a burner. That's what happens when we don't get little things like drive model info. Is DVD Decrypter the only burning software you have? Did you select DVD Decrypter as the supported burner in DVD Shrink? That should have been done the same time you disabled the Nero burn option. Not knowing what equipment you have, except it is a Super whatever, you need to use DVDInfoPro (freeware) and get the drive information and the firmware version. The "Drive" icon at the top (left) is the one to select, it usually opens to that window. Make sure the drive is listed in the box at the lower left. The drive info you need should be at the top right.
Hey you, brobear . Well we have my answer after much time spent, by the two of us. The Toshiba sales guy was wrong and you, Yoda were of course right, my apologies for not following the force. The net, reinforces that this model had a burner, when you look at the spec's of the laptop model.. But after finally finding the information you requested earlier on, through a glance at decrypter the drive is a D:Matshita DVD/CDRW UJDA770. So when I followed that through on my discovery tour I found that it is only a DVD player, (which yes you had already stated), but a cd burner. So after a late night and much angst, I again rang Toshiba, and spoke to a finally well informed Toshibo guy, who confirmed no on this special version of my model, it doesnt have a DVD burner. (ya think). So thanks for the journey, this newbie actually learnt a lot through the way, but sorry for taking up your time. Now I will get back to being a sane, and not extremely confused and frustrated mother of two, who will now look to buy a DVD burner..... Cheers and thanx Red Nagoomby
You're welcome. Talk to someone well informed before getting a DVD burner for your PC. The CPU and RAM have to be large enough (in capacity) to support using a burner. As for children, sanity, and confusion; I have 2 sons, and when younger they had me confused quite often and wondering about my sanity. Just kidding, there's nothing like having children. Enjoy the journeys. Hopefully most will end with enlightenment.
