I am encountering several problems while attempting to read some DVD-R/RW I recorded some months ago: most of them appear unreadable, but in different "fashions"!
Some of them simply get being read, and read, and read.... but DVD recorder is not able to display the DVD menu, or just to tell me if the DVD is recorded or not.
Sometimes, after several seconds of reading-attempts, the DVD recorder gives an "unrecognized format" error and asks if I want to reformat the DVD.
Other times the recorder just starts reformatting without asking anything!

This happens with both DVD-R and DVD-RW.

It is a stand-alone DVD recorder by LG (can't remember exact model right now), which supports both VIDEO and VR modes.

The DVDs I'm trying to play were recorded by the same recorder which fails to read them.

    So, what's going on?
Can I recover DVD contents in some manner? Does an isobuster-like program exist for DVDs?

Yes, and surprise, it's called IsoBuster! *_*

Anyway, re. your problem, try change to better media.

    Good luck!

In the future, if you post in the approprite section, you're more likely to get more answers. The Newbie section is mainly about DVD backups for beginners (factory DVDs and PCs). There is a forum section devoted to the standalone DVD Recorders. http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/109
