well the old celeron processors have a front side bus of 66MHz and the pentium 3 have a frontside bus of 100MHz or 133MHz and pentium 3's have higher clock speeds
Not only that, but Celeron is more of a "stripped-down" version of full-blown Pentium chips. If you're simply using your PC for web-surfing, e-mails, and the like, you should be fine with a Celeron.
Celeron is built for standard tasks like using office applications and browsing the web... basically they are cost effective for office computers, pentiums on the otherhand are built for multimedia applications like games video editing. they tend to run at higher speeds and have a larger cache and obvioulsy because of that they perform better
